We are looking for a full-time Maintenance Worker to join our team at Scarborough Town Centre. This role is responsible for ensuring that all forms of waste and recyclables are handled in a competent manner. The successful candidate will ensure that the parking lot areas, sidewalks, Loading/Receiving docks, and entrances are presentable at all times. The candidate will also clean and maintain all related equipment following recommended manufactures guidelines.
Please note flexible availability is required for this position, including afternoons and weekends as needed. As a member of this team, you will be responsible for:
- Picking up litter around the perimeter of the mall and outer perimeter of the grass areas and peripheral lands
- Cleaning parking lots, and all exterior areas of the building (including loading bays) using the sweeper/vacuum
- Picking up all shopping carts around the exterior of the building
- Emptying/cleaning all ashtrays on a daily basis
- Liaising with garbage contractors for container pickups, ensuring areas underneath bins are clean and free of garbage
- Ensuring docks are kept clean and safe at all times, and checking dock levelers to ensure they are working properly
- Ensuring that Scarborough Town Centre trucks, vacuum and sweeper are cleaned once a week, and ensuring regular maintenance and oil changes are done as per maintenance agreements
- Picking up all wood skids left throughout the mall and bringing them to North Receiving for disposal
- Assisting in the seasonal shutdown of irrigations systems
- Answering all tenant calls while advising the Supervisor
- Assisting the exterior Landscaping Contractor, maintaining duties outlined by the contract
- Watering outdoor plants and related work
- Snow removal at exterior stairwells
- Spreading salt and other deicing chemicals during winter months
- Cleaning corridors to ensure that there are no obstructions that may cause injury to others
- Checking all exterior signage to ensure they are clean and free from graffiti
- Cleaning/maintaining the organic oil room on a daily basis
- Inspecting the roof on a monthly basis, ensuring all drain covers remain clean
- Equipment use (e.g., power tools, lifts)
- Washroom repairs (minor plumbing, fixture maintenance)
- Event setup support for Specialty Leasing and Marketing
- Compactor and dock maintenance (including daily checks and minor troubleshooting)
- Assisting Management Staff with any requests that may arise
To Succeed In This Role, You Have
- Completed high school education, or equivalent
- Customer service and strong communication skills
- A valid Ontario driver's license is required
- The ability to push, pull and lift various tools, machinery and shopping carts; climb ladders; and be on your feet for long periods of time (required)
- Comfortability working outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions
- Experience using basic tools and machinery
- Computer knowledge is a strong asset
- Knowledge of safety rules is an asset
- First aid and CPR certification is an asset
- The ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision
