AltaGas – Analyst / Sr. Analyst, Position Management

The Position Management team is responsible for managing the full trade lifecycle (trade capture, changes in forecast, rail and truck scheduling, pre-settlement) of physical trading positions via detailed modeling/analytics and creative problem solving. As an integral part of the Commercial Team, the Position Management team works closely with the Supply, Marketing, Logistics, and Accounting Teams.

Reporting to the Manager, Position Management and Commercial Enablement & Analytics, the Sr. Analyst will be accountable and responsible for managing physical and financial trading positions for multiple Trade Desks using Allegro, AltaGas’ Energy Trading & Risk Management (ETRM) system. The Sr. Analyst will also be overseeing model maintenance, development, and business tool creation to resolve data discrepancies.

You will:

  • Accountable for the accuracy of Allegro (our ETRM system) data within a given Trade Desk.
  • Ensure Allegro positions are accurate, including planned, forecasted, nominated, and actual volumes through a daily reconciliation process
  • Support & resolve daily risk reporting discrepancies and support end-of-day (EOD) sign-off activities
  • Ensure positions are ready to be actualized and settled/invoiced by the Accounting team based on third-party statements, BOLs, or best available information
  • Provide issue resolution to support settlement/invoicing, liaising between Accounting, Logistics, and Commercial
  • Ensure trade optionality is reflected appropriately for risk management

You have:

  • Working knowledge of NGLs, Crude, and Natural Gas in North American & Global markets, able to discern position implications of standard commercial communications
  • ETRM / CTRM / Allegro or similar system experience
  • Working knowledge of logistics practices and scheduling, adjusting positions based on physical movements would be an asset
  • Commercial logistics, Market Risk, and Accounting background would be an asset (preferably within Midstream)
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, finance, economics or statistics or any other relevant undergraduate program
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Interpersonal skills, able to build relationships across disparate functions
  • Self-starter, able to work independently and provide coaching/guidance to junior team members
  • Strong attention to detail, proven ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet critical deadlines
  • Superior oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Motivated individual able to contribute both individually and as a team player with multiple priorities and tasks in a fast-paced environment
