Since its inception as a heating contractor in 1927, Kolostat has evolved into a multidisciplinary team specializing in the design-build (design-built) of projects in building mechanics and industrial HVAC systems, multi-residential and commercial. Kolostat Inc. provides innovative expertise to owners and managers looking to improve the infrastructure and energy efficiency of their buildings. In November 2022, Kolostat inc. and Krome merged to form a single entity with very complementary expertise. The offices are located in Laval, Montreal and Toronto, and the company carries out projects across Canada.

We are looking for candidates to fill the following position:

Senior Mechanical Engineer - Building Systems

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Meet with clients, assess their needs and assess project engineering needs;

  • Participate in customer site visits and document relevant data to advance preliminary and/or detailed engineering;

  • Perform load calculations with relevant data using the most appropriate tools such as Carrier’s Hourly Analysis Program (ETA) or other software;

  • Establish the concepts of ventilation, plumbing and piping systems;

  • Size networks/equipment and ensure all established standards are met;

  • Understand the building and be able to read the blueprints of all other disciplines such as architecture, structure, electricity, civil, and more.

  • Ensure that the energy/HVAC solutions developed comply with the various codes in force such as ASHRAE, NBC, CNESST, NFPA and SMACNA;

  • Consider the impact of LEED requirements on the design and delivery of our projects;

  • Use standard Kolostat tools and best practices;

  • Coordinate project details within Kolostat and with clients, architects, engineers and other trades;

  • Assist project managers in the installation and commissioning of systems;

  • Analyze project plans, specifications and specifications;

  • Preliminary design of HVAC systems and piping and energy conservation measures including sizing and equipment selection;

  • Understand and perform your tasks according to Kolostat engineering standards, control strategies, and methodologies;

  • All other related tasks.

Profile and skills we are looking for

  • Bilingual (English and French)

  • DEC in Building Systems or BA in Mechanical Engineering (Building Systems).

  • Member of the OIQ

  • Minimum of ten (10) years experience in design mandates.

  • Combined knowledge of HVAC (ventilation, piping and plumbing) an asset.

  • Knowledge of energy efficiency and financial support programs an asset.

  • Proficiency in Office Suite software

  • Communication skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Demonstrates resourcefulness, autonomy and logic.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
