Climbing Instructor (Part Time)
Shame Homes at Rocky Ridge YMCA
Salary: $16.40/hour - $20.15/hour
Start Date: Immediately

The successful candidate will be 18 years of age or older.

What qualifications are we looking for?

At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals.The successful candidates will have the following;

Minimum:

Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.

Evidence of a clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector search

Three professional references

Previous climbing experience

Valid climbing instructor certificate (ACCT and/or ACMG level 1 or higher), OR successful completion of YMCA-hosted ACCT level 1 or 2 certification workshop within 30 days of hire

Preferred:

One of the following certifications:

Climbing Gym Instructor Level 1 or higher from the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG)

Indoor Climbing Wall Practitioner Level 1 or higher accredited by ACCT

Full Challenge Course Practitioner level 2 accredited by ACCT

Previous climbing instructor experience

What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

The Climbing Instructors will:
Provide an impactful experience for members and non-members using the Climbing Wall through registered programs and drop-in users.

Maintain a safe environment by following policies & procedures to manage risks associated with activities on the Climbing Wall.

Lead progressive lesson plans that introduce participants to physical literacy by building fundamental movement skills though climbing programs.

Contribute to a positive team culture by supporting an inclusive environment for staff and volunteers.

Support the administrative systems required for the operation of the Climbing Wall including waivers, program schedules and class lists.

Collaborate with members from other teams to provide positive experiences for children & youth through camps, school groups, birthday parties and more

Attend regularly scheduled meetings & in-services and maintain standards for training and certifications.
