We’re a small team of ambitious thinkers, builders, and doers united by curiosity, perseverance, and a drive to make a meaningful impact. Every line of code, every decision, and every interaction, is in service of empowering researchers to push the boundaries of biomedical understanding.

We value critical, independent thinkers, who are passionate about technology and have the courage to work at the edge of the unknown. We look for cross-functional people with drive and energy, who excel in a culture of trust, transparency and alignment. People who need to know that their days are being well spent and who are looking to grow personally and professionally.

Working on a small team, you will be expected to take on a lot of responsibility very quickly, with the potential to have a massive impact on both the company and our clients in a short period of time. If you’re motivated by meaningful challenges, unafraid to confront difficult situations head-on and thrive in fast-moving environments, you’ll find your place with us..

About the Role

We are looking for a DevSecOps Engineer with a strong security mindset who will take ownership of our infrastructure and its overall wellbeing. This role is more than maintaining CI/CD pipelines or provisioning servers, it's about safeguarding the stability, security, and future-readiness of the entire ecosystem.

You will be joining an engineering team that has a single-minded focus on protecting our customer’s data by strengthening our applications, underlying services and cloud infrastructure. You will be the guardian of our environments, ensuring every deployment is tested, alerts are actionable, and processes are scalable. From preventing risky practices to future-proofing our architecture, you'll play a vital role in ensuring we run smoothly today and even better tomorrow. You will work across many teams including infrastructure, engineering, operations, security, incident response, and disaster recovery to develop scalable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure Ownership: Design, maintain, and continuously improve our cloud infrastructure with a focus on security, scalability, and reliability.
  • CI/CD Management: Maintain and optimize continuous integration and deployment pipelines.
  • Deployment Management: Serve as the deployment manager for all production releases, coordinating timing, stakeholder communication (including retrospectives), validation, rollback plan.
  • Monitoring & Alerting: Ensure complete and actionable monitoring is in place; no critical alert should be missed.
  • Environment Integrity: Maintain clear separation and consistency between staging and production to prevent leaks, errors, or misrouted traffic.
  • Security by Design: Proactively implement secure monitoring and prevention practices and address vulnerabilities early in the development cycle.
  • Automation & Efficiency: Identify and implement automation opportunities to reduce manual intervention and improve system health.
  • Future-Proofing and Infrastructure Advocacy: Build systems that scale and evolve, avoiding shortcuts or short-term fixes.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineering and support to ensure infrastructure supports evolving application needs.
  • Incident Response: Participate in on-call rotations, lead root cause analyses and remediations and manage cloud and security health checks.
  • Documentation: Maintain clear, up-to-date documentation of infrastructure and DevSecOps practices.
  • Vendor Vetting: Lead the evaluation of vendors and third-party tools for security posture and compliance, including conducting risk assessments to ensure alignment with organizational standards and best practices.
  • Vendor Management: Manage technical relationships with third-party infrastructure and tooling vendors, including contract evaluation, performance monitoring, and integration oversight.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in a DevSecOps or Systems Administration
  • Strong background in cloud infrastructure (e.g. GCP, AWS, Azure)
  • Expertise in containerization and orchestration (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform, Helm)
  • Implementation of CI/CD pipeline configuration and management (e.g. Cloudbuild, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins)
  • Strong skills with scripting languages (e.g. Python, Bash)
  • Experience with monitoring and logging (e.g. Stackdriver, Sumologic, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Experience with security tools (e.g. Qualys, Cynet, Cloudflare)
  • Strong understanding of network security, firewalls, IAM, and least privilege principles
  • Experience with incident response and disaster recovery planning and execution
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and managing vendor security reviews
  • Understanding of database systems (SQL and NoSQL) and their administration.

About You

  • You own the roadmap and ecosystem: You don’t just build and maintain, you actively care for the overall health and evolution of the infrastructure.
  • You champion security by design: You understand, promote, and implement secure architecture principles from the start.
  • You are a problem solver: You approach challenges logically and creatively, asking questions to get to clarity, quickly identifying root causes and driving effective solutions.
  • You manage risks with critical thinking and best practices: You never deploy untested changes to production, and you champion safe release workflows, ensuring environments are isolated and properly configured to prevent costly mistakes.
  • You future-proof: You design for the long term, building systems that scale and last.
  • You automate wisely: You reduce manual steps and improve consistency across environments.
  • You embrace learning: You're curious, continuously exploring better ways to secure and scale systems.
  • You’re a team player with strong communication skills: You collaborate well with developers and product teams, and you document what matters.

Perks:

  • Generous Time Off: 4 weeks of vacation + 10 personal days to recharge.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Access to a health benefits plan, including dental, vision, and more.
  • Autonomy and Ownership: We focus on outcomes, giving you the freedom to choose how you accomplish your tasks while owning your work from start to finish.
  • Leadership Development: Direct exposure to CEO-level decision-making with mentorship and the opportunity to grow into an operational leadership role.
