How will you contribute?
Working with the Debates and Publications team, you will edit transcripts of the Debates of the Senate and committee proceedings using our in-house, XML-based application known as “Iris”. You will be an integral part of the high-volume production team ensuring that the spelling, punctuation, grammar and syntax of the transcripts (written text) accurately reflects the digital audio of the proceedings while applying in-house style and usage standards. The general public to staff one (1) casual position in the Communications, Broadcasting and Publications Directorate – Debates and Publications.

Prerequisites

A degree in a relevant field (ex: language studies, literature, communications, translation) or a combination of training and experience as an editor, copy editor or proofreader;
-
Minimum two (2) years’ experience delivering services related to editing, copy editing and/or proofreading in English;
-
An advanced ability to edit, correct and refine English grammar, syntax, spelling and punctuation;
-
Superior knowledge of digital editing software , digital technologies and Microsoft Office software;
-
Availability to work evenings;

Ability to retain and details or to create tools and methods to synthesize and retain large amounts of information;

Ability to defend editorial changes and understand the subtlety of applying editorial standards to convert spoken words into text;

Ability to establish and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment;

Strong attention to detail and ability to compile, analyze, prepare, organize and maintain information in an efficient manner;

Demonstrated ability to work simultaneously with different groups in a multi-disciplinary environment.
