The Opportunity
Representing Douglas College at the WorkBC Employment Services Centre in Maple Ridge, the Team Lead supports the Centre Manager in delivering a high-quality, client-focused experience. This role mentors’ staff across all functions including Career Coaches, Resource Advisors, and Employment Placement Specialists to promote consistent service delivery as part of a collaborative team. With strong critical thinking skills, the Team Lead interprets and applies WorkBC policy, fosters collaboation and drives continuous improvement within the team while managing a small client case load.

WHAT IT TAKES
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Centre Manager in promoting a client-focused, high-performing team environment;
- Provide comprehensive orientation and ongoing training to new and existing staff on ICM systems, WorkBC policy, and Client focused services;
- Lead weekly case conferencing sessions with Career Coaches to review client files and promote brainstorming to help with addressing client needs and to foster shared learning;
- Mentor, coach, and support Career Coaches to strengthen client engagement strategies and improve service delivery.
- Foster a learning culture through feedback, assisting with skill development, and promotion of team collaboration;
- Guide the team to meet performance targets, and provide support through data-driven coaching and individualized strategies;
- Encourage innovation and adaptability through creative interpretation of policy and guide the team to apply in client service delivery practices;
- Participate in strategic planning sessions and align team efforts with organizational goals;
- Support and encourage community engagement initiatives and the development of local partnerships.
Program Oversight & Client Services:
- Oversee intake and interventions including: Education & Training, Self-Employment, Job Search, Work Experience, Wage Subsidies, and Customized Employment;
- Manage a small caseload, conducting Needs Determination assessments and referrals.
Resource Area Assistance:
The Team Lead will**;**
- Ensure a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment in the Resource Area;
- Oversee timely follow-up with self-serve clients and promote transition to Case Management;
- Support staff to navigate the Online Employment Services portal.
Additional Duties:
- Participate actively in staff meetings and strategic planning activities;
- Ensure the maintenance of the Quality Management System ISO 9001 is applied throughout programming;
- Provide coverage during staff absences or vacations as needed;
- Carry out other duties as assigned to support service excellence and team success.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THISROLEYOUWILLNEED**:**

A post-secondary degree or diploma in employment services, career development, or a related field—or equivalent combination of education and experience;
-
2 years’ experience that demonstrates the ability to lead, mentor, and coach in a team-based environment;
-
Knowledge and experience with WorkBC Employment Services, policies and ICM;
-
Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills, particularly in the interpretation and application of employment-related policy;
-
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
-
Knowledge of complex client barriers to employment and cultural diversity;
-
Proven track record of achieving performance-based outcomes in employment services;
-
A commitment to continuous learning, innovation, and service excellence;
-
Familiarity with ICM, OES, and other provincial employment systems;
-
Strong computer and digital literacy (MS Office Suite, virtual meeting platforms, database systems);
-
Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check; and
-
CCDP, Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) or equivalent designation.
Additional Information
This is a full-time contract position (40 hours per week) based at the Maple Ridge WorkBC Employment Services Centre, and may be required to travel occasionally within the lower mainland. Must be able to work flexible shifts. Shifts are typically Mondays-Fridays from 9:00am-5:00pm, but may include occasional evenings until 6:30pm.
