Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.
A dedicated team of researchers and clinicians at Waypoint has secured $2.3 million in funding through Ontario’s Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence to establish the Mental Health Anti-Violence Hub for Empowerment, Advocacy, Recovery, and Trauma Support (MHAV-HEARTS). This initiative was created to address critical gaps in mental health services for individuals affected by gender-based violence (GBV). In collaboration with key agencies across Central Ontario and the province, MHAV-HEARTS will become Canada’s first mental health hub focused specifically on GBV, working to close a significant service gap through innovation, advocacy, and partnership.
As part of this important initiative, we are seeking a temporary part-time Indigenous Clinical Educator and Program Advisor – GBV who will help to support the development of culturally appropriate programs and services for Indigenous patients and communities related to GBV. This role supports staff, patients, and community partners by providing culturally safe training, resources, and clinical guidance. The position focuses on building capacity to deliver trauma-informed, culturally responsive care to Indigenous individuals affected by GBV by supporting the development and maintenance of practice documents, individual and group education, skill modeling through direct clinical practice and working collaboratively with stakeholders.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a transformative, province-wide initiative aimed at empowering survivors, building capacity within the system, and enhancing recovery through specialized, coordinated care.
