About the job:

Kent is looking for an Electrical Power System Engineer / Protection Relays Programming SME to be based in Calgary, Alberta

Skills and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  • Subject matter expert with electrical system studies (i.e. load flow, short circuit, motor starting analysis, harmonic analysis, protection and relay coordination, relay setting files, arc flash study, grounding study, etc) by using ETAP / SKM.
  • Advanced knowledge of Programming of GE protection relays using Ennervista Software and similar protection relays from othe electrical vendors accordingly.
  • Design of MV and HV Single Line Diagrams, including PC&M (Protection control and metering) Diagram with strong knowledge of relay, protection and metering systems associated with substations and e-houses.
  • Perform electrical equipment sizing calculations (Transformer sizing, Cable sizing, NGR sizing, MCC sizing, grounding calculation, etc.)
  • Manage assigned work effectively, prioritizing, executing, reporting and managing schedule and budget.
  • Support multiple capital sustaining projects
  • Establishing the scope of work, effort hour estimates and deliverable lists.
  • Attending project team meetings, Client meetings and vendor review meetings
  • Reviewing designs for constructability and accordance with project requirements.
  • Performing field visits to validate existing drawings and confirm tie-in locations.
  • Utilize the Workshare office or HVEC (High-Value Engineering Center) to complete the electrical deliverables.
  • Supervise, Coach, and support the team members on projects.
  • Other duties as assigned

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in Canada
  • 15years of experience in the design of Electrical distribution systems in Oil & Gas Facilities for conceptual, FEED and detailed engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of domestic and international codes (CEC, CSA, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, API, NEMA, etc.)
  • Experience with ETAP and SKM
  • Experience managing vendor electrical packages (substation, e-houses, Transformers, VFD etc.) will be an asset.
  • Experience with High-voltage design will be an asset.
  • Experience with Lightning Protection will be an asset.

Communication:

  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal & written
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate workflow with High-Value Centers (HVEC).
  • Establish / Maintain good working relationships with the Clients and the ability to represent the employer professionally.

Behavior/ Core Competencies:

  • Ability to work on multiple capital-sustaining projects environment
  • Leadership skills, team player, Proven multi-tasker with strong organizational skills.
  • Proven attention to detail, analytical, team player and strong customer service skills required.
  • Good writing skills to produce technical reports, scope documents and presentations.
