Personal Support Care Worker-Medication Assistant (Ontario)

The Personal Support Care Worker-Medication Assistant (Ontario)is a critical role within our communities as it impacts the lives of residents and ignites the warmth of human connection.
As a Personal Support Care Worker-Medication Assistant (Ontario) your typical day will impact the following ways:

Administer authorized medications in accordance with the provincial regulatory requirements, Sienna policies & residents electronic health record
-
Promotes the organizations vision, mission, values in all residents’ encounters and decisions.

Improves the function in the specific personal care area
-
Seeks direction/assistance in implementing orientation plan for an impaired resident
-
Provides individual mouth and dental care to residents as indicated in the plan of care
-
Prepares and assists residents to and from dining room as requested or required
-
Follows directions of the nurse in an emergency situation
Must haves:
-
Successful completion of a Personal Support Worker Certificate from an approved college or private institution meeting the standards established by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, National Association of Career Colleges as per established provincial requirements

Successful completion of the required Ministry & Sienna approved medication administration training, including successful completion of the competency testing and/or must be registered with the applicable Provincial care aid registry, if required by applicable legislationCurrent Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification (BCLS) preferred

Continues to grow and develop through attendance at in services, seminars, workshops etc.

Demonstrated working experience with the elderly in a health care setting, knowledgeable with respect to their needs
-
Knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering simple treatment and related bedside care to resident.

Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with residents, families, and visitors
-
Sensitive and empathetic to the needs of the residents
