What can you expect from this position? As the Associate Director, Airside Electrical Maintenance at Toronto Pearson, you will assume a pivotal senior leadership role, overseeing the maintenance, repair, and improvement of critical electrical systems across our dynamic airfield operations. This position is instrumental in ensuring all airfield electrical systems consistently comply with federal regulations, operate with peak efficiency, and meet the highest safety standards. You will provide crucial day-of leadership and executional oversight to a dedicated, shift-based team of over 35 Electricians and semi-skilled trades, vital in maintaining the safety and efficiency of airfield lighting. Beyond daily operations, this role drives performance through key stakeholder engagement, coordinating initiatives to continuously enhance our world-class airfield electrical infrastructure.
You will lead the overall execution of the Airfield Electrical Maintenance Program, ensuring strict Transport Canada compliance and serving as the primary accountable party for all internal and external audits. This includes meticulously monitoring and analyzing reports, metrics, and trends to pursue continuous improvement, innovation, efficiency, and operational resiliency, while upholding the highest safety standards. You will be accountable for the safe and effective delivery of airfield lighting across Movement Areas (Runway, Taxiway, and Apron), supporting both planned and emergency maintenance in accordance with regulations, with paramount focus on operational and employee safety.
Furthermore, you will champion policy and standards development, leading the creation and adherence to the GTAA Airfield Electrical Maintenance Manual and Standard Operating Procedures, and overseeing the critical development of the GTAA Airfield Lighting Compliance Program (Runway Photometrics). You will cultivate strong internal and external stakeholder relationships, fostering mutual goals and accountability, ensuring all airside activities are meticulously planned, coordinated, and communicated across the airport community to uphold operational integrity. You will also direct a well-managed unit within budget, developing robust processes for efficient staffing and demonstrating strong financial discipline aligned with corporate strategy.
Your responsibilities extend to creating annual departmental business plans with results-based objectives, preparing and presenting seasonal and peak-period operations plans, and tracking/reporting on departmental KPIs to ensure high preparedness and operational resiliency. Finally, you will set service level standards, support Aviation SMS reports and investigations, and develop job-specific training for all Airfield Electrical Maintenance personnel in conjunction with the Airport Development and Technical Services Training Department.

This is the role for you, if you have:
- A post-secondary degree in a related field (e.g., electrical, maintenance, aviation, business) or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in an airport environment or similar, with demonstrated experience serving a large and complex customer base, and preferably experience in people management within a matrixed organization and multiple operations.
- Proven relationship management skills with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating the ability to influence, collaborate, and negotiate cross-functionally in a unionized environment and with external stakeholders to achieve results.
- Experience working within a unionized environment.
- A valid Ontario Driver’s License.
- The ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance.
- The ability to obtain and retain a valid AVOP (Airside Vehicle Operators Permit) D/A.
