Our ideal candidate will be a Registered Canadian Patent Agent with the CPATA. They will have an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics and/or Physics. Finally, they will be a team player with experience drafting and prosecuting foreign and domestic patent applications, preferably in the fields of telecommunications and artificial intelligence.

The Opportunity
- Meeting with inventors to identify their invention’s points of novelty
- Drafting foreign and domestic patent applications to articulate the above in writing
- Responding to both foreign and domestic Office Actions
- Monitoring deadlines/activities related to client IP portfolios
- Fostering and maintaining positive client and colleague relationships
- Assist with the mentorship, training and development of junior patent agents in training
- Other duties as required
What You Will Bring
- A Class 1 license with the CPATA as a Registered Canadian Patent Agent (having passed USPTO Patent Bar would also be an asset)
- 8+ years of experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in both Canadian and foreign jurisdictions
- An advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics and/or Physics (a J.D. or other applicable law degree is not required)
- An understanding of and experience with AI, cloud computing and telecommunications technologies
- The ability to meet and manage deadlines
- The ability to analyze complex problems and devise creative solutions
- Excellent communication skills, especially in writing
- Bilingualism in French and English would be an asset (but is not mandatory)
