Exciting opportunities exists for the right individuals to join our progressive non-profit organization as a Community Support Worker. The position entails providing supports to individuals at our Pine Tree Day Program in Coquitlam.
The program provides both community-based and home-based activities, including social, recreational, vocational, daily living skills, skill development and leisure recreation activities within a supported environment. Program and activity schedules are created to reflect the needs, preferences, and goals of each individual.
The right candidate should have experience with Behavior Management and Personal Care. Sign language is an asset, and candidate must have at least 1-2 years of experience with personal care.
Strive is currently looking for Casual on-call Community Support Workers who can fill in shifts that are not covered by full-time lines. This position requires having a flexible schedule as shifts may be called out last minute.
Job Duties Include but not limited to:
- Knowledge and experience working with developmental, physical disabilities, mental health and behaviours
- Ability to create a meaningful routine
- Knowledgeable of creating independence vs. creating dependence
- Following health care plans*
- Completing daily documentation
- Implementing personal protocols, schedules, and activities
- Knowledge and experience with community integration and teaching life skills
Job Qualifications and Requirements:
- Class 4 or 5 BC Driver’s License preferred and clean driver’s abstract
- Minimum of 1-year experience
- Criminal Record Check
- Negative TB test
- First Aid and CPR
- Mandt Certificate
- Food Safe Certificate
Job Type: Casual/on-call
Schedule: 9AM-3PM
Start Date: ASAP
Compensation: $25.95/hour

Strive Living Society (formally Howe Sound Rehabilitation Services Society) is a registered nonprofit organization that provides community and residential services for children, youth, adults, and seniors with diverse abilities.
Founded in 1988 by a Psychologist and Social Worker with the shared belief that even the most challenging individuals could live successfully in the community, Strive began as a modest group home for three young adults with developmental disabilities from the former Woodlands Hospital.
Today, Strive serves not only adults with developmental disabilities, but also children, youth, and seniors with physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries, medical complications, mental health issues, autism spectrum disorders, behavioural obstacles, and/or dementia. In addition to residential resources, Strive operates drop-in centres, community-based programs, and home-based services.
Strive’s service area has expanded from North Vancouver to Greater Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, as well as the Sunshine Coast. Most of our programs are fully CARF accredited.
This grass roots agency now serves over 600 individuals, with headquarters based in beautiful Burnaby, BC.
