About the role

Brief Description SUMMARY STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans and implements the Operations functions for SME Canada events including pre-event, onsite and post-event activities. Ensures operational effectiveness and excellence for all exhibitors by working in conjunction with all official event vendors as applicable. Manage all event operations budgets to ensure budget maximums are not exceeded while always seeking financial efficiencies for SME and all relevant event stakeholders.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

  • Establish an operational critical path for each assigned event and manage to ensure key milestones are achieved, while process improvements are identified and made as needed.
  • Assist in evaluating event service contractor bids including Venue, General Contractor, Audio Visual, Catering, Registration, Transportation/Customs, Temporary Staffing, among others.
  • Develops operations budget for assigned events and maintains cost control.
  • Plans/executes pre-event activities including production of the Exhibitor Services Manual, operational communications for exhibitors, operational webinars, move-in and move-out scheduling.
  • Coordinate with venue, contractors and labour to ensure a successful operational experience on-site including favourable move-in and move-out experiences for exhibitors.
  • Plans/executes post-event activities including Operations AAR (internal), post-event vendor meetings, post-event thank you communications to vendors and partners.
  • Provides ongoing customer service to exhibitors, including assistance on planning and event set-up.
  • Other duties as as signed.

Requirements MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, hospitality management, business administration or related required.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in operations, marketing, events, conferences, project management or sales.
  • Operations or Event management experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Leadership skills to guide diverse teams towards a common goal.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Outgoing, self-motivated person with strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates extreme attention to detail and professionalism.
  • Bilingual (French) skill set an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normal office environment.
  • Regular, in-person attendance required.
  • Primary office location: Markham, ON.
  • Some travel required (10% - 40%).
  • Exposure to hazards from forklift trucks, fumes etc. in exhibit halls
