In accordance with Article 9.05, where the previous incumbent returns to this position within the thirty (30) day trial period this position shall be deemed not vacant and the posting will be cancelled. Should the vacancy be cancelled, applicants to this posting shall be notified.

However, this does not guarantee the permanence of the shift time or work assignment for the position. The Hospital reserves its Management Rights under the CUPE Collective Agreement to make changes to shift time and work assignment as it deems necessary.
DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the coordinator, is responsible for performing patient escort material delivery and messenger duties throughout the hospital and other areas as assigned. Performs these functions by meeting the performance criteria and objectives of the department.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Transporting patients to designated areas of the hospital via wheelchair, stretcher, surgi-lift, bed and escorts ambulatory patients as assigned.
-
Visually monitoring the condition of the patient and/or the proper functioning of the medical support devices during transport.
-
Responsible for seeking immediate assistance at the closest nursing/patient care area should any irregularity in the above be noticed.
-
Picking up and delivering materials from various areas of the hospital including stat. delivery items such as specimens, requisitions and medical surgical supplies.
-
Providing wheelchairs, stretchers and surgi-lifts for patient transport as well as various transport aids such as portable oxygen IV poles where required.

Assisting in the lifting of patients to and from the transport vehicle under the direction of a member nursing staff or therapy/technical staff.

Notifying staff at delivery site of the arrival and location of the patient and/or material.
-
Will be required in the case of an emergency to respond and assist in Code red, fire and code blue, cardiac arrest situations.

Providing sick time or vacation relief in the Mail Room, on Distribution Rounds or Dispatching as assigned.

Adhere to worker responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, hospital safety policies, and dept/unit established procedures at all times.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Demonstrated above average communication and interpersonal skills.

1 to 2 years’ experience in a related health care occupation.

Proven ability to attend work regularly.

Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.
