Job Description:

The Financial Analyst will play a key role in delivering financial insights and support across the organization. Reporting to the Associate Director of Finance, you will use your hands-on accounting experience and understanding of financial principles to lead complex accounting tasks, refine processes, and guide stakeholders with clear financial advice. Your responsibilities will include financial reporting, budget preparation, account reconciliations, and helping teams make informed decisions with confidence.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Oversees monthly financial close, account reconciliations, and journal entries to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Interprets and applies Salvation Army policies and tax/accounting principles, ensuring compliance and proper coding of revenues and expenses.
  • Reviews and analyzes unit financial statements each month to monitor cash flow, fund balances, and budget performance.
  • Designs, implements, and maintains new processes and systems to enhance efficiency and strengthen internal controls.
  • Prepares, reviews, and approves journal entries, investment transactions, and accruals to ensure accurate period-end reporting.
  • Leads the preparation of audit schedules, financial statements, government filings, and Registered Charity Returns in compliance with regulations.
  • Analyzes and discusses budget variances and forecasts while preparing ministry unit budgets and multi-year financial plans.
  • Acts as the primary contact for ministry units and clients, providing clear, respectful communication and resolving financial issues promptly.
  • Reports to the Associate Director of Finance while managing confidential financial data, mentoring staff, and supporting organizational financial compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting.
  • Enrolled in a CPA program PEP.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience (AP/AR/GL).
  • Demonstrates respect for The Salvation Army’s mission, culture, and values.
  • Brings strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Upholds integrity and confidentiality while balancing fairness and flexibility.
  • Advanced Excel skills (VLookups, index/match, indirect, trims, left/right/mid, substitute, if/or/and logic) and proficient in Word.
  • Delivers clear, professional written and verbal communication.
  • Capable of training and supporting individuals with limited financial backgrounds on reporting requirements.
  • Committed to high-quality customer service with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing risks.
  • Manages time effectively as a self-motivated, organized, and disciplined professional.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $55,693.49 to $69,616.86 with a maximum of $83,540.23.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
