About the role
Who are we?
At OSI Maritime Systems, we pride ourselves on delivering world-class navigation and bridge systems. With decades of experience serving military customers, we remain at the forefront of innovation in the maritime industry. Our collaborative and dynamic environment ensures every team member contributes to advancing marine safety and operational excellence. With a global presence, we are proud to have offices in Canada, UK, Taiwan, Australia and Germany.
The Role
The Simulation Developer will support the creation of high-impact, real-time 3D simulations and tools across multiple platforms within our Marketing and Communications team.
In this role, you will develop immersive Virtual Reality experiences and standalone desktop-based simulation tools that visualize and simulate the functionality of OSI’s advanced maritime systems. While the emphasis is on building interactive, gamified, and VR simulations, the role also supports marketing initiatives, including the generation of high-quality 3D visuals for proposals, presentations, and other communications materials as needed.
You will be responsible for the full development pipeline (from asset creation and optimization to real-time interaction systems and performance tuning) using Unreal Engine, Blueprints, C++, and supporting tools like Blender. This position plays a key role in delivering visual experiences that communicate OSI’s capabilities to both hardware systems and software audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy immersive VR experiences primarily for Meta Quest 3 and desktop-based simulation tools using Unreal Engine (Blueprints and C++).
- Implement interactive systems, user interfaces, and application logic that prioritize usability, reliability, and high performance.
- Create, import, and optimize 3D assets using Blender and Unreal Engine tools, ensuring visual fidelity and real-time efficiency.
- Develop and refine materials, lighting, and post-processing effects to produce realistic, high-quality simulations and rendered visuals.
- Perform rigorous debugging, profiling, and performance optimization across both VR and desktop platforms to maintain smooth user experiences.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to translate functional requirements into engaging, interactive workflows.
- Support iterative development cycles by incorporating feedback and enhancing simulation features continuously.
- Generate high-quality rendered assets for proposals, showcases, and marketing materials as needed.
- Maintain best practices in file management, documentation, and development workflows to ensure project consistency.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ensure all interactive and static outputs align with brand guidelines and visual consistency standards.
You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Arts, Computer Science, Game Development, or a related field.
- Experience in simulation development, with strong focus on VR platforms (Meta Quest 3 preferred) and gamification elements.
- Demonstrated expertise with Unreal Engine development using both Blueprints and C++.
- Proven ability to create or modify 3D models in Blender optimized for real-time use within Unreal projects.
- Deep understanding of real-time performance optimization techniques including LOD management, efficient rendering, memory use, and asset streaming.
- Strong knowledge of real-time lighting, materials, post-processing, and visual effects to achieve high-fidelity visuals.
- Experience building VR applications on Meta Quest platforms and standalone desktop simulations.
- Excellent communication skills, with a collaborative mindset and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
- Eligible for Canadian security clearance.
Assets (Preferred but Not Required):
- Experience developing VR games or gamified experiences for PC and standalone VR devices such as Meta Quest 3.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro).
- Background or interest in maritime technology, defence systems, or complex technical simulations.
- Previous experience in a technical services organization.
- Skills or interest in 2D or concept art.
