Location

This position is required to work in person at various sites across the city. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.

Position Overview

The City of Burlington is accepting applications for program staff to work Fall, Winter and Spring programs with the following participant groups and program areas:

  • Pre-School – for children aged 0-6 years
  • Children and Youth – for children aged 5 to 18 years
  • Youth Drop-in Programming

Available positions include:

  • Program Leader/Instructor
  • Assistant Programs- RCC
  • Specialized Instructor

Community programs in the above areas are provided at various times and locations throughout Burlington. Program staff report to the Recreation Programmer/ Recreation Coordinator and typically work 1 to 3 shifts per week per program. Hours of work will vary with position title and will vary dependent on program need. These positions will work up to 10 months between September and June.

Responsibilities

Program Staff are responsible for planning and implementing creative and varied programs to meet the needs and interests of all participants. Successful applicants will be responsible for the safety and supervision of participants both on and offsite and are expected to implement and participate in activities. All staff must adhere to all health and safety regulations at all times.

Requirements

You have the following qualifications or are in the process of obtaining, at your own expense:

  • Standard First Aid and CPR level C certification
  • Behavior Management Systems Training (available through the City of Burlington)
  • HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development

The ideal candidate will have experience working with children in a recreational setting. This position requires the individual to have confidence, patience, time management, strong communication and organization skills. The ideal candidate will be creative and demonstrate both active learning and active listening. It is important that the candidate is aware of others’ reactions and understanding behaviours and can provide an inclusive experience for all ages and abilities. Qualifications in post-secondary education or working towards completion of a Degree, Diploma or Certificate in a related field are considered an asset.

  • Successful applicants are required to be at all mandatory training dates and to complete all mandatory online training prior to program start – training dates will be confirmed with successful candidates and will take place in September prior to program start.

Successful applicants will be placed at a location that best fits the program needs.

Police Check Requirement

This position requires the successful candidate to provide a clear criminal record check with a vulnerable sector check at their own expense.

Hourly Range

Program Instructors/ Leaders – $22.97 / hour; Assistant Programs RCC - $17.95 / hour; Specialized Instructor – 25.92/ hour
