TELUS Spark Science Centre (Spark), a registered educational charity, exists to entertain and inspire people of all ages through creative encounters with science, engineering, technology, math and art. Spark exists to lift people up with the power of curiosity through creative encounters with science!

Calgary’s science centre is a pioneer in science entertainment and programming, with roots dating back to 1967. Home to one of Western Canada’s largest dome theatre, the Digital Immersion Gallery, VR experiences, and innovative spaces like Steven’s Lab, where interactive experiments unfold before your eyes. From the robot-dog Flint to Canada’s first robot-coa5ter, R05iE, and a 15-acre park surrounding the science of the developing brain, Spark is a hub for creative encounters.

Position Overview

Spark is currently recruiting a temporary part timeScience Guide, Food Services. The Science Guide, Food Services reports directly to Supervisor, Food Services. The Science Guide, Food Services is accountable for delivering superb customer service to ensure guests satisfaction. This includes roles as a cashier, assisting guests on their menu choices, upholding high level of cleanliness and service, and being a brand ambassador for Spark.

Key Responsibilities

· Collaborate and contribute with the collective effort of proving great customer service and welcoming atmosphere to our guests.

· Accurately and efficiently process transactions for guests.

· Develop a positive working relationship with colleague and other staff in Spark.

· Work as a team and support all the food service staff in delivering of service.

· Keep area stocked and clean.

· Engage guests and make them feel welcomed.

· Aim to increase efficiency and reduce waste.

· Proactively identify needs or issues that are or will impact guests and act accordingly.

· Protect employees and customers by providing a safe and clean environment.

· Ensure all elements of the guest journey is held to the highest standard.

· Ensure personal and team activities are aligned with business and strategic goals of Spark as a whole.

· Model high performance, flexibility and kindness in a rapidly changing growth environment.

· Other duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications & Knowledge

· Cash handling experience.

· Able to use cash registers and card payment systems.

· 1-2 years of related experience within the Customer Service field.

· Good verbal communication skills and is able to listen and easily understand guests’ requests.

· Ability to answer and address customer questions and concerns in a manner that benefits both the guest and the organization.

· Ability to work as part of the food service team to create an exceptional guest experience.

· A proven track record of adding value to an organization’s culture and initiatives.

· A positive attitude!

· Desire to work on a high performing team with a continuous upgrading culture to achieve high impact results. Fluidity and a desire to work hard and grow are essential.

· A high degree of creativity with the ability to leave your ego at the door.

· Willingness to learn and adapt to change.

· The successful candidate will be required to work weekends and evenings.

· Availability flexibility. Shifts include, but are not limited to, Thursday – Sunday evenings and Saturday & Sunday days.

Hourly Rate Range: $17.03 - $17.95
