Join our team as a Strategic Foresight Analyst and play a pivotal role ensuring our strategic planning is considered and responsive.

What will you do?

  • Identify and assess opportunities to develop Corporate-level strategic foresight projects that provide insights on how best to prepare and harness future possibilities and turn these into action
  • Enhance client-focused strategic and business planning, project planning, service development, delivery and outcomes
  • Incorporate strategic foresight, social innovation, collective impact, developmental evaluation and other techniques to improve project outcomes and increase innovation
  • Provide project and process management expertise on client-sponsored strategic and corporate projects
  • Lead and support integrated strategic foresight project-based teams
  • Develop project documentation, including plans, charters, presentations, and reports
  • Facilitate sessions for information gathering, engagement, training and other project related requirements
  • Engage clients, stakeholders, partners, citizens and staff, across multiple levels, as required for project deliverables
  • Develop resources and conduct workshops and training sessions to build organizational capacity for strategic foresight
  • Ongoing research, enabling the Corporation to be on top of trends and issues that can affect the business of the organization
  • Conduct industry best practice research and identify and assess approaches in other municipalities. Gather and share information, stay up-to-date on latest trends in municipal government and local issues in the community and from other cities
  • Other related responsibilities

Qualifications:

  • A university degree in business administration, design, public administration, or a discipline as required by area of specialization
  • 5 years progressively responsible experience in a combination of strategic and operational business planning, project management and real world application

Assets:

  • A Master's Degree in a related field
  • Strategic foresight certificate
  • Project management certification
  • Change management certification

Skills required for success:

  • Significant knowledge and background in strategic design, social innovation, and strategic foresight
  • Knowledge of strategic and business planning principles, policy development, performance management and benchmarking, and risk management
  • Change management expertise and/or formal training
  • Advanced level knowledge of primary and secondary research methodology, including design and implementation, data collection, trend and results analysis, presentation and quantitative qualitative evaluation
  • Significant skill and ability in project and process management, including the ability to effectively gather, analyze, synthesize and report data
  • Ability to translate complex ideas, topics and work effectively and persuasively to a diverse audience
  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions of an advanced nature
  • Ability to integrate strategic insight into corporate planning and management
  • Experience leading and/or shaping human-centred design is an asset (design labs, journey mapping, etc.)
  • Skill and expertise leading integrated and interdisciplinary project teams with demonstrated results through collaboration
  • Change agent, with strong intrapreneurial skills and attitude, and willingness to try new things
  • System thinking ability to see bigger picture and make connections
  • Strong relationship skills, with lateral colleagues and senior leaders
  • Strong analytical skills, with demonstrated ability to move research from analysis to understanding by all
  • Ability to understand and execute tasks and assignments of a complex nature
  • Confidence and well-developed leadership and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated asset to a team and the team’s organizational culture
  • Bias toward action and track record of translating analysis into action

Work Environment:

  • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Salary Range: $48.767 - $61.623 (Hourly); $85,915.260 - $108,564.320 (Annually)

Salary ranges are in the process of being updated in accordance with the recently ratified collective agreement between the City and CSU 52 and will be forthcoming shortly.
