We are now preparing for our upcoming commercial launch. This is an exciting and significant milestone in our journey to bring this ground-breaking technology to patients.
In this role, you will be joining and leading the Human Factors team, and collaborate with colleagues in Systems Engineering, Clinical Engineering, UX, Risk Management, Regulatory Affairs, and design teams.
Please note, this opportunity is a hybrid work arrangement, located in Burnaby, BC.
Meaningful work you will be a part of
As the Human Factors team lead, you will be leading a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and human factors specialists working across the mechanical, software, risk management, and regulatory domains. Your daily activities will center around leading and supporting the team to achieve project milestones.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Leading the human factors team to draft and ensure that deliverables required for regulatory submissions are completed on schedule.
- Collaborating with the UX team to collect and interpret user feedback through formative studies and incorporating the feedback to mitigate and document use-related risk.Managing summative validation studies for multiple user groups.
- Reviewing product change proposals, assessing their impact on use-related risks, and planning and executing appropriate updates to human factors testing and documentation.
- Ensuring appropriate HF team member involvement in early design and development activities such that validation activities are successful and efficient.
- Supporting growth and development of the team.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field
- Practical knowledge of medical device regulatory requirements and standards such as ISO 62366 and the FDA Guidance on Applying Human Factors and Usability Engineering to Medical Devices
- A minimum of five years' experience in medical device design and development, or another regulated industry
- Experience working with cross-functional teams including risk management, clinical engineering, regulatory affairs, and UX
Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication and technical documentation skills
- Established track-record of successful team leadership; setting realistic and attainable goals, providing room for growth, and establishing a shared vision of team objectives
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently
- High degree of drive and motivation
- Willingness to travel occasionally
Compensation
Kardium has listed the total cash compensation range (base salary + 5% RRSP contribution) that we expect to pay applicants for this role, as of the time of this posting. Pay offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, and business or organizational needs. For candidates with more or less experience than listed above, the pay range will be adjusted.
As a permanent employee, you will also participate in Kardium’s stock option plan.
- $117,000 - $145,000 (CAD Annually)
