TCHC’s Cleaner Apprenticeship Program aims to create an opportunity for TCHC tenants 18 years old, or older, to gain experience that can lead to sustainable employment, financial stability and ongoing professional development.
What you’ll do
- Assists Operational staff with overall building cleanliness and provides a safe environment for tenants, staff and the general public
- Assist with the cleaning of exterior grounds and all internal common areas of assigned work locations
- Support with the cleaning of vacant units
- Respond and provide information to inquiries from tenants, staff and the general public according to Toronto Community Housing policies and directs inquiries to appropriate personnel in a courteous manner
- Safely operate a variety of cleaning and communication equipment
- Work as a team and respond to emergency situations within their assigned work location in accordance with Toronto Community Housing policies, procedures, guidelines and applicable legislation
- Adhere to all safety guidelines in accordance with the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Use safety equipment and protective clothing as required
- Notify management of occurring deficiencies or needs
- Attend and take part in meetings and training sessions
- May be required to work evening shift and on weekends
- Performs related work as assigned
What you’ll need
- Demonstrated capacity to operate janitorial and other job related equipment
- Experience in cleaning, janitorial or related work an asset
- Capable of following instructions and learning new techniques
- Sufficient command of the English language, oral and written, to carry out instructions
- Ability to provide respectful service to tenants, staff and visitors in a multicultural environment
- Ability to work in a safe and responsible manner
- Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act including WHMIS
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and work outside as required
