About the role
Epic Integration Developer
Remote - Canada | Contract
Our client, a leading force in the scheduling application industry, provides advanced HR and scheduling software solutions to prestigious clients, including Starbucks, AirFrance, and various governmental and health organizations. With a global presence, including a dedicated team in Canada, the US, Croatia, and more, they are now seeking to add a skilled Epic Integration Developer to their team for an upcoming project lasting 8 months or more (alternatively, the role can also be filled part-time over 18 months).
A slight preference will be given to candidates located in Toronto in case an occasional in-person meeting is required, although the role is fully remote. Candidates can be located in Canada or Latin America.
Project context
Our client needs real-time, bidirectional data flows between its platform and Epic at several Canadian hospitals.
Inbound: patient census, acuity scores, OR cases, outpatient appointments.
Outbound: published staff schedules (and potentially time-and-attendance data) so clinicians see up-to-date rosters inside Epic Hyperspace.
You’ll own the Epic side of the build and work closely with an internal API team and a separate PeopleSoft-integration developer to keep data models in sync.
What you’ll do:
Design, build, and document interfaces using Epic Bridges, Interconnect, HL7 v2/v3, and FHIR R4 APIs.
Create transformation logic, queuing, monitoring, alerting, and error-recovery routines that meet Epic change-control and audit requirements.
Participate in technical workshops with hospital interface teams, capturing requirements, challenging assumptions, and producing detailed interface specifications.
Coordinate with the PeopleSoft developer so that employee and scheduling data remain consistent across systems.
Stand up CI/CD pipelines and smoke-test scripts; guide unit, integration, UAT, and cut-over activities.
Must-have experience:
3+ years of hands-on Epic integration development (Bridges, Interconnect, Chronicles extract, HL7, FHIR).
Proven lead-developer or “dev-architect” role on at least one high-volume interface project for a provider or ISV.
Comfortable authoring interface specifications, driving design decisions, and representing technical choices to non-technical stakeholders.
Solid grasp of OAuth 2.0, TLS, service accounts, message-level encryption, and healthcare privacy rules (HIPAA, PHIPA).
Strong English communication skills; able to lead client calls and write clear documentation.
Nice to have:
Current Epic certification (e.g., Bridges Interface Engineer).
Experience with interface engines such as Cloverleaf, Rhapsody, or Mirth.
Background in workforce-management, scheduling, or time-and-attendance domains.
Of Note:
Completed background checks will be required before the start date if you are selected as a winning candidate.
While we strive to respond to all applicants, please understand that due to the high volume of applications we receive, it may not be feasible to provide individual feedback or responses to every candidate. Rest assured that your application will be carefully reviewed and considered. We appreciate your understanding and interest in joining our team.
