SUMMARY

We are seeking a skilled Industrial HVAC-R Technician to support the day-to-day performance, maintenance, and reliability of our commercial cooling and climate control systems across our greenhouse operations in Alberta. This is a hands-on role for a Red Seal-certified refrigeration technician (or equivalent) with experience in air-cooled chillers, refrigerant management, and HVAC electrical systems.

The ideal candidate has deep experience with industrial HVAC-R systems and strong troubleshooting ability in an automated, multi-system environment. Bonus points for electrical, PLC, or building automation exposure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Refrigeration & HVAC Systems

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial HVAC and refrigeration systems, including Trane RTAC 500 chillers, evaporators, condensers, compressors, air handlers, and ductless mini-splits.
• Conduct regular performance checks, leak detection, and system pressure diagnostics.
• Perform refrigerant recovery, charging, and replacement in compliance with environmental regulations (e.g., ODP).
• Carry out chiller start-ups, shutdowns, and seasonal glycol system adjustments.

Electrical & Controls Support

• Diagnose and repair HVAC electrical components: contactors, relays, sensors, and circuit boards.
• Assist in troubleshooting automation and control systems linked to environmental setpoints and climate targets.
• Collaborate with controls technicians or automation teams to optimize performance of climate systems and interface points.

Preventive Maintenance & Documentation

• Execute scheduled maintenance tasks, including coil cleaning, pump checks, belt replacements, and filter changes.
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs, refrigerant use records, and system documentation.

Cross-Functional Equipment Support (as needed)

• Support broader mechanical maintenance when HVAC workloads permit (e.g., irrigation pumps, pneumatic valves, compressors).
• Respond to after-hours emergencies as part of an on-call rotation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Journeyman Refrigeration & HVAC Mechanic (Red Seal or equivalent)
• Minimum 3 years' experience with commercial or industrial HVAC-R systems
• Experience with large outdoor air-cooled chillers, compressors, and pump-driven loop systems
• Proficiency in refrigerant management and diagnostics
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid ODP/Environmental Handling certification
• Experience with building automation systems (BAS) or PLC-integrated HVAC
• Electrical troubleshooting and low-voltage system experience
• Forklift and aerial platform certifications (or willingness to obtain)
• Familiarity with greenhouses, agriculture, or manufacturing environments
