Job Summary
Reporting to the Research Manager and working under the direction of the trial’s Principal Investigator and Research Coordinator, the Research Assistant will be responsible primarily for participant recruitment, conducting follow-up surveys with enrolled participants and subsequent data entry, in addition to other study support activities. Most interactions with participants will be completed by telephone however the Research Assistant may be asked to come onsite to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute to perform various tests on enrolled participants. The Research Assistant will be self-motivated, a highly competent individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills, have a good understanding of research and ethical practice, and possess the knowledge and skills needed to work in a clinical research environment.
Key responsibilities:
- Support day-to-day operations and responsibilities of the project in conjunction with the Research Coordinator to ensure completion of project deliverables and outputs.
- Actively contribute to the participant recruitment strategy and activities.
- Regularly meet with study investigators and research staff (online and/or in-person) and maintain ongoing communication with the study team.
- Participant Tracking & Follow-up Assessments
- Coordinating participant follow-up assessments according to the research protocol
- Administering follow-up surveys to enrolled trial participants
- Enter participant data and conduct data quality assessment activities using tools including SPSS and REDCAP
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a health-related discipline
- Previous work experience (or equivalent combination of training or experience) in a clinical research environment
- Excellent organization and time-management skills with the ability to multitask
- High level of proficiency with computer software (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Teams)
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to make “cold-calls” to potential study participants
- Demonstrated understanding of principles of good research and data collection practices
- Assets include; experience with REDCAP and EPIC, previous work in the field of smoking cessation and/or addictions and ability to speak in French.
