Position Overview
The Electrician will support the effective operation and maintenance of building systems at our Centre. In this role, you will perform and coordinate electrical maintenance tasks, respond to internal service requests, and ensure all electrical systems comply with applicable codes, safety standards, and organizational policies. Working closely with the Maintenance team, you’ll contribute to the smooth day-to-day operation of the Centre, assist in troubleshooting and repairs, and play a key role in maintaining a safe and efficient environment.

Primary Functions and Responsibilities

  • Reading and interpreting building plans, electrical, mechanical and architectural drawings, and electrical code specifications to determine wiring installations
  • Maintains electrical drawings
  • Cutting, threading, bending, assembling and installing conduits and other types of electrical conductor enclosures and fittings
  • Pulling wire through conduits and holes in walls and floors
  • Laying out, assembling, installing, repairing, maintaining, connecting and testing electrical fixtures, control equipment, and wiring for fire alarm, communication, light, heat and power systems
  • Positioning, installing and maintaining distribution and control equipment such as circuit breaker panel boards, fuse enclosures, switch boxes, and pullboxes
  • Performs monthly and annual testing of systems
  • Monitors inventory levels of electrical supplies
  • Testing electrical circuits to ensure integrity and safety
  • Assist with power and electrical services for various events
  • Responds to emergency repair calls as needed

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Completion of high school education
  • Valid Journeyman Electrician’s License
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working as a Red Seal Electrician
  • Knowledge of all applicable codes and standards to provide a safe and healthy work environment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, blueprints and drawings
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) to collaborate with staff, contractors, and management
  • Weekend availability required for shift scheduling

Salary for this position is in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Convention Centre Corporation and the International Union of Operating Engineers – Local 987.

The RBC Convention Centre is the premier convention facility in Manitoba. Located in the centre of Winnipeg's bustling downtown, the three-story, 264,000 sq ft multi-purpose facility has access to more than 2,150 downtown hotel rooms and is within walking distance to many of the city's best restaurants and attractions.

The south building features 22,400 sq ft of pre-function, lobby and registration space with floor-to-ceiling windows. The main floor pillar-less York Ballroom is 24,000 sq ft of premium space that can host large galas or be divided into four meeting or conference rooms with a spacious registration area. With high ceilings and a beautiful LED lighting system that extends outside to the street level plaza on York Avenue, this ballroom is a highlight of the south building.

The north building has a main floor of over 21,000 sq ft of flexible meeting space plus a number of specialty rooms. The second floor offers over 26,000 sq ft of meeting space with a unique 300 seat presentation theatre that includes a movie theatre screen, privacy desks and tiered comfort seating. Stitching the two buildings together is the expansive third floor exhibition hall. Almost two city blocks, the 131,000 sq ft of contiguous space can host a myriad of events including consumer or trade shows and large conventions. In the centre of the third floor is the incredible City View Room with its unique architectural ceiling, dramatic lighting and floor-to-ceiling windows. This beautiful 43,000 sq ft space can accommodate 3150 people for a sit-down dinner or 228 tradeshow booths.
