Reporting to the Director of Finance
Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach and mentor a group of members within the Finance Team (Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and General Accounting) including providing oversight
- Provide support for the Director of Finance with staff performance, scheduling, training, and leadership
- Lead Finance Team members through various processes improvement initiatives, projects, and new business development
- Provide guidance and direction on accounting processes including BAR processes, OHIP billings, collections, and patient customer service
- Oversight of accounts payable processes including but not limited to liaising with other Hospitaldepartments and Mohawk Medbuy AP service providers
- Monitor all banking activity and oversee the preparation of daily and monthly entries/reconciliations
- Provide Leadership with cash flow projections and frequent monitoring of cash position and amounts owing
- Review financial data and journal entries to ensure completeness, accuracy and compliance with Hospital policies as well as accounting principals
- Reviews and analyzes significant accounting transactions to ensure proper accounting treatment whichmay require research of technical accounting literature, and complies with Ontario Hospital ReportingStandards (OHRS) and Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS).
- Oversee the Hospital’s Fixed Asset Module
- Liaise with the Hospital’s banking institutions for reporting, transfers, eft’s, investments, etc.
- Lead and oversee the annual year end external audit process and act as liaison with external audit firm
- Prepares draft audited financial statements
- Lead the drafting of working papers for special audits relating to capital projects, Other Vote programs, and physician programs
- Reviews, analyzes, and prepares monthly reconciliations of various general ledger accounts and year-end accounting and audit schedules to provide supporting documentation to internal and externalauditors
- Compilation of monthly reporting results and development of financial reports
- Preparation of the monthly internal financial statements
- Oversight of journal entry process and regular posting of journal entries as required
- Participate in internal or external reporting to various stakeholders and ensure timelines are achieved
- Variance analysis on a financial statement level
- Provide ad hoc support or leadership for projects, leadership requests, and initiatives
Qualifications:
- CPA designation preferred
- Completion of a recognized post-secondary program in accounting, business administration or recognized equivalent
- Minimum FIVE (5) years of similar work experience required;
- Experience with PSAS, IFRS, Capital budgeting and forecasting;
- Knowledge of Ontario Healthcare Reporting Standards (OHRS) is an asset;
- Display initiative and sound professional judgment and integrity;
- A self-starter with the ability to handle multiple job responsibilities, set priorities, problem solve and work with all levels of staff while appreciating the responsibility of meeting tight and conflicting deadlines;
- Strong understanding of accounting concepts and generally accepted accounting principles;
- Knowledge of Meditech is an asset;
- Proficiency at an intermediate level in Microsoft office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access);
- Strong financial accounting, analytical and problem solving skills;
- Flexibility to work off-hours in time sensitive situations
- Ability to lead and motivate a team
