Job Description

Providence University College in Otterburne, Canada is seeking a detail-oriented and efficient Prep Cook to join our food service team. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of meals for students, faculty, and staff, ensuring high-quality and timely food production.

  • Prepare ingredients for cooking, including washing, peeling, chopping, and seasoning various foods

  • Follow recipes and portion controls to ensure consistent food quality and quantity

  • Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, and mixers

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to food safety and sanitation standards

  • Assist in the storage and rotation of food items to minimize waste

  • Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth meal service operations

  • Participate in kitchen inventory and restocking activities

  • Assist in the preparation of special meals for catered events or dietary restrictions

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Food Handler's Certificate required

  • Culinary training or relevant coursework preferred

  • Prior experience in food service or commercial kitchen settings preferred

  • Proficiency in food preparation techniques and knife skills

  • Knowledge of food safety principles and practices

  • Ability to operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment

  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds

  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed
