About the role

Our Syncrude Operation lab in Fort McMurray, AB is currently looking for a Lab Supervisor to join our team! We are looking for candidates with a minimum of a Bachelor of Science major in Chemistry and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a laboratory environment and 2 years’ experience in a leadership role.

Role and Responsibilities:

o Develop strategic plans with the objective of preparing the department for continued growth, provide operations support

o Consistently provides clear, concise, and accurate information to operations in a timely manner

o Leads and develops staff - including responsibility for coaching and mentoring, working jointly with employees in the development of their career path, ensuring that adequate training is provided

o Reports analytical results to operations within expected turnaround times. Provides clear and concise instructions based on report findings (results, QC, duplicates, etc.)

o Elevates significant and complex resource issues to Manager

o Maintains training records and relevant qualifications for staff

o Perform more complex sample preparations and analyses

o Provides technical expertise to staff, develops and maintains a positive work environment for employees

o Execute all maintenance and quality control procedures as detailed in the standard Quality Assurance Manual for water Quality Monitoring. Compile records of results of all special studies and projects

o Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills

EH&S Responsibilities:

o Ensure that all laboratory activities and procedures are performed in as safe and environmentally friendly manner as possible

o Routinely perform workplace observations and audits of laboratory activities to ensure all laboratory safety rules and safe work practices are being adhered to

Qualifications:

o B.Sc. in Chemistry and higher is an asset

o 5-7 years of experience in specific lab environment of which 2 are at a leadership level

o Excellent up to date knowledge of laboratory process, LIMS and automation

o Ability to accurately review Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)

o Good knowledge of relevant ASTM, UOP, API and similar standard method approaches to analysis

o Understanding of ISO17025 Quality Management Systems

o Valid Class 5 Drivers License with clean abstract
