About the role

Overview Element has an opportunity for a Microbiology Technician in a Food and Environmental Lab whose primary responsibility is to support laboratory operations by conducting the relevant microbiological testing.

  • Shifts vary between the hours of 8 AM and 7 PM 7 days a week, and will include a high probability of working weekend shifts for extended periods.*

Responsibilities

  • Provide essential microbiological analytical laboratory services for food and beverage manufacturers, private sectors, commodity exporters companies and food industry in line with Element's standards
  • Maintain the good laboratory housekeeping and ensure Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) standard are adhered
  • Perform all analytical testing for the samples, recording and updating of results in LIMS.
  • Maintain accurate records with a strict adherence to the corporate Quality System
  • Role includes working on week-ends and paid overtime

Skills / Qualifications

  • Minimum post secondary education in a microbiology related field
  • A preference will be given to candidates with specific microbiological experience in routine food and water methodologies including but not limited to: Standard plate counts, Total coliforms, E. coli, Yeast and Mold, Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli O157:H7 and many more
  • Microbiological techniques such as: direct plating, serial dilutions, qualitative pathogen detection, PCR, ELISA, biochemical bacterial identifications, membrane filtration, MPN and much more
  • Excellent aseptic technique
  • Effective time management
  • Efficient in Windows based software applications
  • Good English communication skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Periodic or occasional lifting 20 pounds
  • Periodic Chemicals and Pathogenic Bacteria
