About the role

We are looking for Global Product Leader - Engineering (m/f/d), based in Toronto. The Global Product Leader- Engineering will:

  • Proactively support the technical development and execution of the global strategy for Engineering EAR segments of the Global Construction LoB.
  • Proactively drive design, development and implementation of new and modified products for these segments globally, to steer and control the Engineering Product underwriting portfolio globally, to ensure achievement of financial targets, implement, refine and monitor a consistent and coherent global underwriting governance framework in the Product.
  • Identify opportunities for growth within new and existing production sources, act as an integral part of the Global Construction CUO team in its core functions of providing a leadership and governance frame for all underwriting activities.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:

  • Underwriting Strategy
  • Align with Global LoB Head to identify target Engineering segments to grow, maintain, remediate or exit.
  • In alignment with Hub Leaders, transfer segment strategies into regions, recognising regional variances.
  • Manage technical referrals on Engineering business.
  • Represent the Engineering sub-LoB in all aspects of technical and strategic discussions with internal stakeholders and reinsurers .
  • Product Development
  • Proactively drive design, development and implementation of new and modified products to meet LoB needs and strategic plans.
  • Design and develop wordings and technical clauses in liaison with relevant stakeholders, notably ARC, Legal, Compliance.
  • Ensure effective pricing and deductible strategies in line with ARC requirements and LoB strategic plan.
  • Lead and drive the Engineering-related Expert Team(s).
  • Liaise with ARC to train Global underwriters on new and emerging technologies.
  • Steering and Controlling
  • Work with Pricing and Portfolio Steering to ensure credible, reliable, consistent technical pricing.

  • Steering and controlling of the Global Engineering Product to achieve the Topline financial target and profitability as identified in the Segmentation studies.

  • Proactively monitor Engineering Product portfolio performance and take corrective measures to ensure target achievement as required.

  • Re-underwriting of complex business segments within Engineering.

  • Manage technical referrals on Engineering Business.

  • Underwriting Approach and Compliance

  • Drive and proactively monitor a consistent and coherent global underwriting governance framework for the Product.

  • Drive development and implementation of Construction Functional Rule, Underwriting Guidelines, Rules and Principles, Conditions, Pricing Tools and best practice processes and standards.

  • Assign underwriting authorities worldwide, ensuring robust, efficient controls in place.

  • Complete business reviews and UW File Reviews to ensure quality and consistency of execution of technical underwriting guidance.

  • Market & Relationship Management

  • Be the face of the Engineering technical line to global clients and brokers.

  • Work in harmony with Global LoB Head and Hub Leaders, respecting the matrix nature of regional strategy vs global technical responsibility.

  • Proactively research and publish information on market developments, competitive set and own position in the market.

  • Positively represent Allianz Commercial internally within the Allianz Group, and externally to peers and conference delegates in technical matters.

What You’ll Bring To The Role

  • Minimum of 7 – 10 years of proven technical expert in LoB, with significant experience in the international insurance market.
  • Minimum of 7 – 10 years of substantial experience and successful track record in a portfolio management role, with shadow P&L role in Engineering sub-LoB.
  • Preferably Degree in Engineering or appropriate, related discipline.
  • Certification - Completion of professional insurance qualifcation (e.g. CII/CPCU etc).
  • 5 to 7 years of Comprehensive technical knowledge of LoB products, coverages, underwriting practices, pricing processes and sales distribution channels.
  • In depth understanding of global and local insurance markets and competitor landscape.
  • Technical / Industry knowledge and ability to convert this to specific underwriting strategies and referral thresholds.
  • AI Experience - Applying artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to improve business processes and decision-making is highly beneficial.
  • Pricing & Contract Drafting: analyze performance against benchmarks ensuring adequate progress. Design, develop and implement consistent, robust global wordings.
  • Business Insight: Ability to research and disseminate information on market developments, product development, competitive set and own position in the market.
  • Legal and Regulatory: in depth knowledge of local laws, regulation, and issues relating to industrial insurance products.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze highly complex data, from multiple sources, in detail; identify and resolve issues before they transpire.
  • Strategic Planning: Ability to develop, implement and communicate strategies to address important trends or changes in the business.
  • Communication & Presentation: Ability to express ideas and messages clearly, both written and verbally. Ability to "sell" an improvised or prepared audience winning story.
  • Strong understanding of financials, cost management and macro economic trends.

The annualized base pay range for this role is $173,141 – 261,614 CAD. The posted salary range is only applicable to applicants based in the North America.  ”The annual base salary range represents a nationwide market range. The actual salary for this position may be above and will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate. The base pay is just one component of the AzC total compensation package.  As part of our comprehensive compensation and highly rated benefits programs, employees are also eligible for annual performance-based cash incentive awards.
