About the role

Helper

We require a helper to help with maintenance work on a three month contract that has potential to be extended. A significant portion of the day is spent ensuring all equipment is properly functioning (TV, plumbing, electrical lights, HVAC). This person must understand the technologies required in the work they are directing.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with completion of the preventative maintenance checklist and completes minor repair work orders such as replacing ceiling tiles, light bulbs, patching vinyl, etc, to maintain the hotel and keep product quality to standard.

  • Assists in checking electrical systems such as air conditioning controls, television sets, lighting systems and makes minor repairs and/ or replacement.

  • Assists in checking and makes minor repairs on general plumbing systems and fixtures such as pipe lines, toilets and sinks, kitchen, leisure club and laundry equipment.

  • Maintains outside hotel property, parking lots, lawns, etc., according to seasonal requirements.

  • Refurbishes furniture and fixtures within guest rooms such as cabinets, tables, chairs, doors, windows and counters. Paints and finishes furniture and fixtures in guest rooms, if needed.

  • Responds quickly to guest requests in a friendly manner. Follows up to ensure guest satisfaction.

  • Participates in fire drills, training classes regarding safety, security, department procedures and service guidelines.

  • Ensures all fire and safety inspections are completed and any discrepancies are corrected.

  • Provides a professional image at all times through appearance and dress.

  • Follows company policies and procedures.

Note: All other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Experience as a hotel Maintenance worker a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • A “hands-on individual” knowledgeable in general maintenance, HVAC, woodwork, plumbing, electrical, drywall, grouting, grounds maintenance, boilers, small appliances, etc.
  • Certifications will be an asset.
  • Ability to deal with all levels of management in a professional manner.

Hours of Work:

Must be available throughout all hours of the day. Will be required to work nights, weekends and holidays. Will be required to work in fast paced, stressful environment. May be asked to work overtime.

Type of Supervision Required

Reports to Maintenance Manager and Rooms Division Manager. Works under general instructions to prioritize and complete assigned tasks.
