Position Overview:
Resumes are being accepted for the position of Junior Corporate Analyst with the Finance department. The successful candidate will report to the Supervisor, Corporate Reporting, within the Financial Strategy and Reporting division, and will contribute to the preparation of the financial statements, working paper files, external audit support, investment accounting, and other required reporting for the City and its wholly owned subsidiaries (e.g., Guelph Junction Railway and Guelph Municipal Holdings Inc.).
Key duties and responsibilities
- Provide support to the financial reporting team with respect to the preparation of the year-end working paper files and audited financial statements for the City, and associated entities (e.g. Guelph Junction Railway, and Guelph Municipal Holdings Inc.).
- Support the preparation for interim audit and ad-hoc financial reporting projects.
- Responsible for all accounting entries, preparation of year-end working paper files, and assist with drafting financial statements and Board and Council reporting for Guelph Junction Railway and Guelph Municipal Holdings Inc.
- Support the preparation of the multi-year budget and budget confirmations for Guelph Junction Railway and Guelph Municipal Holdings Inc.
- Record monthly investment cash transactions and assist with investment reconciliations.
- Assist with cash flow forecasting.
- Assist with tangible capital asset accounting, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and requirements
- Completion of post-secondary education in Finance/Accounting or related field.
- Experience with accounting duties such as preparing and processing journal entries, reconciliations, variance resolution, and year end closing activities.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to analyze data sets to identify issues and determine root cause.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments in order to meet deadlines in a very demanding, service-focused environment.
- Excellent mathematical skills, aptitude for figures, thoroughness and attention to detail and accuracy are critical to this position.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff and stakeholders.
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Experience using financial enterprise software, JD Edwards experience preferred.
- Enrollment in CPA program and intention to seek accounting designation is considered an asset.
- Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Hours of work
35 hours per week, Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm. Flexibility would be required to attend evening meetings and to meet departmental needs in peak periods.
Pay/Salary
Non Union Grade: 3: $66,626.56-$83,283.20
