Job Description
The Principal, Growth Equity (“GE”), plays an important role on the GE Leadership Team, leading and managing fund and direct investments and delivering on the group’s long-term business and operating goals. The position will be based at CPP Investments' headquarters in Toronto, alongside the rest of the team, with in-office presence required and travel expected.
As an ideal candidate, you have experience in and passion for growth investing, an established network, experience working with GPs, and demonstrated people development/leadership. You have built a strong investment track record and bring the required presence and investment judgment to be an effective thought leader for GE. You are also excited to work in a partnership-driven model, making both fund and direct investments alongside GP partners. We are looking for a proactive self-starter who is a team-player, results-oriented and passionate about helping a team to be successful. Experience working in a high-performance and collaborative culture is preferred.
Team Description
The GE mission is to provide CPP Investments with strong returns by making fund commitments and GP-aligned direct investments alongside venture capital and growth equity managers across North America and Europe. GE is part of the Funds group within CPP Investments' C$156B Private Equity platform and works closely with several teams across the broader organization.
Accountabilities:

Demonstrate deep knowledge of the growth investing landscape with a focus on tech and tech enabled businesses
-
Apply expertise to develop and execute on an investment opportunity pipeline and manage portfolio of investments
-
Exercise strong investment acumen and judgment
-
Take full responsibility for external partner engagement
-
Lead investment processes in an integrated team environment that utilizes relevant internal and external insights to drive investment edge
-
Lead due diligence, critically weigh evidence related to key underwriting assumptions
-
Oversee development of documents and lead presentation and review with internal stakeholders
-
Lead and develop team members across the GE team and contribute to overall team culture and engagement
-
Drive enterprise-wide impact through an overall commitment to our strategy, consistently making choices that drive value for the enterprise
-
Applicant expected to be in-office at least 4 days a week to contribute to collaborative team culture (excluding travel days)
Qualifications
-
Undergraduate degree or college diploma in relevant field
-
An advanced degree or certification (CFA) is an asset
-
7-10+ years of relevant work experience
-
Significant relationship management experience including primary responsibility for managing relationships with portfolio companies and other external stakeholders
-
Strong research, analytical, financial modeling, valuation, problem solving skills and ability to think creatively
-
Experience managing successful negotiations with multiple stakeholders and executing a wide range of agreements
-
Advanced computer/technical skills – MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
-
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
