Job Summary:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Domestic Marketing and Recruitment, the Domestic Marketing and Recruitment Assistant, works co-operatively with the Langara Global Student Marketing and Recruitment Team to implement the College’s strategic Student Recruitment Plan. This position is the primary contact responsible for addressing inquiries from prospective and existing domestic students and Canadian high school counsellors, by telephone, video conference, email, and in-person, and contributes to the development and maintenance of counsellor relationships in Canadian markets. This position conducts presentations and information sessions to prospective students, assists in developing student information materials, and provides support to develop and execute Langara’s Student Recruitment Plan.

Job Description:

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Provides information and resources to and addresses inquiries from potential and existing clients by telephone, email, video conference, and in-person with the objective of recruiting Canadian students to Langara:
  • Promotes Langara College to clients by providing information about Langara’s academic programs, services, admission policies and procedures; discussing the benefits of studying at Langara; and encouraging them to apply to the College.
  • Provides general information to clients about educational cultural differences, and clarifies expectations; including making referrals to other members in Registrar and Enrolment Services student services or other appropriate departments.
  • Prepares and conducts presentations, information sessions, and attends recruitment fairs in British Columbia and across Canada.
  • Follows up with prospective students to support the application process to the College.
  • Works closely with admissions and counselling staff as well as Student Services Team, to ensure a well co-ordinated and efficient process for communicating with potential domestic students and throughout the application and admission process.
  • Provides recommendations to the Associate Director, Domestic Marketing and Recruitment on various student recruitment policies and procedures based on current inquiry trends.
  • Liaises with Langara department chairs, faculty and counsellors to keep abreast of program changes and admission requirements.
  • Works closely with and provides support to the Associate Director, Domestic Marketing and Recruitment for carrying out his/her their daily responsibilities.
  • Responsible for tracking and analyzing a database of potential domestic students and follow up with students as requested by the Associate Director, Domestic Marketing and Recruitment.
  • In conjunction with the Communications & Marketing Department and Registrar and Enrolment Services, coordinates the development and printing of promotional and informational materials for students.
  • In conjunction with the Langara Global Student Marketing & Recruitment Team, prepares student enrolment forecasts, as required.
  • Prepares and makes oral presentations, promoting Regular Studies and Continuing Studies Programs to potential clients.
  • Responds to routine queries regarding student admissions and refers complex and non-routine questions to the Admissions team.
  1. Contributes to the development and maintenance of Canadian High School Counsellor relationships in support of the College’s Strategic Student Marketing and Recruitment Plan:
  • Promotes Langara College programs to Canadian High School Counsellors by describing the programs, courses, British Columbia university transfer system, and application policies and procedures.
  • Develops contacts with Canadian High School Counsellors and recommends opportunities for collaboration to the Langara Global Marketing Team to pursue further business relationships.
  • Maintains communication, builds relationships, and solves problems with Canadian High School Counsellors including, but not limited to, visiting their office; conducting seminars for their clients; and developing, writing and distributing newsletters.
  • Coordinates and attends fairs, information sessions, and workshops locally and across Canada in order to promote College’s programs and services as well as developing contacts with new Counsellors.
  • Assists with monitoring and evaluating High School Counsellors’ referrals.
  1. Performs other Marketing and Recruitment activities as required:
  • Gathers and compiles information on local competitors and their student recruitment initiatives for the purpose of providing recommendations for promotional activities that will increase domestic student enrolment at Langara.
  • Maintains current knowledge of Canadian education systems and recruitment trends.
  • Accesses information from provincial and national ministries as well as other public and private education organizations to keep up-to-date on changes in the Canadian education marketplace.
  • Co-ordinates presenters, makes on-campus arrangements, and leads campus tours for prospective students and guests hosted by the College.
  • Provides assistance to the Associate Director, Domestic Marketing and Recruitment in developing and implementing educational projects.
  • Assists with travel scheduling and planning.
  • Selects and organizes work for SWAP students.
  1. Performs other duties/projects as required.

Qualifications Required:

Education and Experience:

  • Two-year Diploma in business field, Marketing, or Communication.
  • Two (2) years of recent related experience working in Canadian student recruitment, in a post-secondary institution.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Knowledge of the British Columbia post-secondary education system including the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing the admission of students to post-secondary institutions.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and written.
  • Strong sales, customer services, and persuasion skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of marketing principles and terminology.
  • Ability to make and deliver effective presentations and speak in public.
  • Ability to interpret and apply College, government, agency, and departmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively work with and provide information, assistance and related services to the public, faculty, staff, agents and students.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a team.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills combined with an understanding of diversity, cross-cultural issues, and familiar with other cultures
  • Intermediate level computer skills including: keyboarding at 45 wpm, word processing (MS Word), spreadsheet (Excel), database management (MS Access), PowerPoint, e-mail, and internet navigation.

Additional Info:

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to travel within British Columbia and Across Canada.
  • In order to meet admission deadlines and take advantage of peak recruitment times, vacation requests may not be granted at certain times during the year.
  • Some travel within Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, and across Canada is required to attend various educational fairs, secondary and post-secondary institutions, or other recruitment events.
  • Ability to physically handle heavy materials and/or equipment (i.e. promotional materials, display stands for student recruitment events).
  • Most of the duties for this position will take place at the College, applicants should be prepared to travel within Canada during established recruitment cycles.
  • Valid Canadian driver’s licence is required and regular access to a vehicle.
