Engineering Technologist 1 (P&C)
Number of positions: 1 Job Location: Edmonds 06
Employment type: Permanent Region: Lower Mainland
Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid
Annual salary: $ 78,000.00 - 84,100.00
What you'll do
- Performs a variety of complex technical, financial and support functions relating to the administration, planning, project
management, design, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of generation, transmission and station
plant by: studying and interpreting projects; using existing standards to prepare alternate design proposals for projects;
selecting, testing, expediting and controlling project material and accessories; reviewing drawings and tenders for accuracy
and conformity to standards; preparing detailed engineering drawings, specifications and other related documentation;
performing a variety of technically complex calculations for related design proposals; participating in the preparation of
feasibility studies and related technical reports; participating in general reconnaissance and selection of project sites;
performing a variety of administrative and testing activities; performing troubleshooting, testing and defect and disturbance
analysis.
- Performs a variety of project management functions to assist in the ongoing operation of budgets and funding by:
preparing and compiling budgets; performing a financial monitoring process on existing projects and programs; advising of
the procedures and requirements involved in the process; preparing a variety of progress reports; preparing economic
analysis spreadsheets and assisting in power studies by creating new and adapting existing macros; preparing a variety of
project schedules.
- Maintains liaison with internal and external groups such as other departments, field staff, consultants, manufacturers,
suppliers, contractors, government agencies and local interest groups concerning technical and financial aspects of
assigned work.
- Provides drawing requirements to drafters and consultants; checks work for accuracy and conformity and gives advice on
technical aspects of the work to lower level staff.
- May be required to perform a variety of related duties such as issuing drawings, preparing correspondence, maintaining
project records and files, assembling a variety of related documentation; undertaking special studies or gathering relevant
information, preparing related graphs and tabulations; performs drafting duties as required.

Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job.

May be required to perform all the functions of the Engineering Technical Assistant job.
What you bring
- Graduation with a Diploma of Technology from an Institute of Technology in either a Civil, Electrical, Mechanical discipline
or equivalent.
- Over five (5) years applicable experience in the design, testing and/or construction of hydro electric generation,
transmission and station facilities and related equipment is required.

Understanding of Advanced Design data modeling using AutoCAD Electrical and Autodesk compatible tools is an asset.

Participate in standards and documentation development, and actively participate in BIM/AutoCAD Electrical industry
groups or committees to advance industry adoption, application toolkit development, and inform BC Hydro design practices.

Additional Information:
- This position is supporting the entire Transmission P&C Engineering division providing technical support to various
engineering processes.
- As part of the selection process, applicants may be required to take a test related to AutoCAD Electrical and Vault during
the interview.
- Majority of work is performed within the office environment. Some incumbents are exposed to all weather conditions while
frequently working in the field.

Occasionally exposed to hazards from operating, testing and/or construction equipment when at field sites.

Preference will be given to candidates with an electrical background and Protection & Control (P&C) design experience.

This is a busy position with tight deadlines. Previous experience in an engineering office would be an asset.

A good working knowledge of unit controls, governors, exciters and protection is expected.

Driver's License Type = Class 5 must be maintained in good standing as a condition of continuous employment as there
will be occasional driving for the role.
