About the role
Summary of function
The Controller is a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for the overall management of Rustica Foods’ financial operations, reporting, and internal controls. This role oversees accounting functions, budgeting, cost analysis, and financial planning, with a strong focus on supporting operational decision-making in a manufacturing environment. The Controller ensures financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and provides actionable insights to support company growth and efficiency.
Main responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting:
Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
Prepare internal and external financial statements in accordance with GAAP and company standards.
Supervise all accounting functions, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic financial forecasts.
Provide financial modeling and scenario analysis to support strategic planning and capital investments.
Monitor performance against budget and provide variance analysis with actionable recommendations.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
Develop and maintain internal controls to ensure financial integrity and mitigate risk.
Ensure compliance with government regulations, tax requirements, and audits (e.g., CRA, food industry standards).
Coordinate and lead external audit processes.
Leadership & Team Management:
Supervise and mentor a team of accounting professionals.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, cross-functional collaboration, and accountability.
Partner with other departments (e.g., Operations, HR, Sales) to align financial strategy with business objectives.
Experience and Education
CPA designation required (CA, CMA, or CGA).
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, including 3+ years in a manufacturing environment (preferably food).
Strong knowledge of accounting and financial systems (preferably SAP).
Skill Set
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, data analysis)
Strong communication and analytical skills, especially with non-accounting professionals
Effective leadership and collaborative traits in supporting the finance and other departments
Ability to resolve complex accounting problems and assist other accounting staff in harmonizing finance related issues.
