Security Guard with Data Centre Support On-Contract
About the role
Duration: 8 to 12 months (with extension possibility)
Location: Markham, Ontario
Job Type: On Contract (Independent Contractor), on-site at Markham
Hourly Rate: CAD $17.75
- Monitor and secure the building premises, ensuring entry is restricted to authorized personnel only
- Greet and screen visitors at entry points in line with site access protocols
- Conduct regular foot patrols across the facility to deter and detect unauthorized activities
- Maintain continuous oversight via internal and external video surveillance systems
- Monitor critical infrastructure systems, including cooling units, UPS, and backup generators; escalate anomalies as per protocol
- Inspect and monitor fire alarm and suppression systems; complete monthly checks of fire extinguishers and fire safety equipment
- Record daily environmental readings (temperature, electrical load) from the Data Center and Electrical Room as per the checklist
- Handle basic shipping and receiving duties, manage courier supplies, and coordinate incoming and outgoing mail distribution
- Oversee janitorial staff adherence to cleaning and facility maintenance responsibilities
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant security or building monitoring experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be available to work 12-hour night shifts, including weekdays and occasional weekends
- Flexibility to work a minimum of 2 twelve-hour shifts per week (8 AM – 8 PM or 8 PM – 8 AM)
- Valid Security Guard License as per provincial regulations
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certification
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
