About the role

The Opportunity

Keyano College is seeking a dedicated and student-focused Student Advisor to join the Office of the Registrar in a 3 month term position ending on or before Aug 30, 2025. This role uses a developmental approach to help students achieve academic and personal success through individualized educational planning. The Student Advisor plays a vital role in providing accurate, timely information and guidance on college programs, admissions, financial resources, and academic policies while fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide detailed guidance on college programs, courses, application processes, and admission requirements.
  • Assist students with course selection, schedule creation, and understanding transfer credit policies.
  • Advise on academic policies, deadlines, tuition payments, and withdrawal processes.
  • Support struggling students by referring them to academic resources or counseling services.
  • Evaluate transcripts and guide students on certificate, diploma, and degree planning.
  • Inform students about financial options, including student loans, awards, bursaries, and scholarships.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Aid team to resolve complex financial issues.
  • Follow up with prospective students to guide them through the registration process.
  • Promote Keyano College programs through outreach activities, including high school recruitment.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide students with comprehensive support.
  • Process registrations, course changes, and withdrawals during registration periods.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, preferably in the social sciences, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a post-secondary setting, with a focus on customer service and administrative support.
  • Strong advisory, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with post-secondary education programs, admission requirements, and financial aid processes.
  • Skilled in using student information systems (e.g., Power Campus) and general office software.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Adaptable to a fast-paced environment with multiple demands and interruptions.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Compensation is $5,437.86 per month as per the CUPE IS6 collective agreement
  • Employer paid comprehensive health and dental benefits, including a health spending account.
  • This position qualifies for additional payment of the Northern Living Allowance of $1,040.00 per month (This allowance is reviewed annually and is subject to budget approval).
