Advisor, Regulatory Affairs (Non-Union) Mississauga (Derry Road)

Full Time, 35 hours per week, Hybrid

As an Advisor, Regulatory Affairs & Compliance , you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring our organization meets all industry regulations, while staying ahead of emerging regulatory trends and standards. From analyzing legislative developments to ensuring accurate and timely reporting, you’ll contribute to shaping a compliant, forward-thinking environment that supports our business operations.

What You’ll Do Regulatory Monitoring & Analysis

  • Stay ahead of industry developments by monitoring emerging regulatory issues and providing qualitative and quantitative analysis with actionable recommendations.
  • Review staff papers and decisions from the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) to ensure timely and accurate regulatory accounting and compliance.

Compliance Management

  • Develop and maintain compliance policies, procedures, and processes aligned with OEB, IESO, Ministry of Energy, and Ministry of Finance regulations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of all OEB-regulated reporting requirements, including RRRs, utility scorecards, surveys, and compliance filings.

Collaboration & Support

  • Partner with internal teams to ensure regulatory compliance across business initiatives and provide guidance on industry requirements.
  • Support external audits for regulatory reporting, including RRRs and ESQRs, and manage retailer agreements effectively.

Process Improvement & Training

  • Lead the development and maintenance of compliance checklists and processes to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Design job aids, provide employee training, and support the implementation of new or revised regulatory business processes.

Strategic Initiatives

  • Provide analysis for regulatory advocacy issues and strategic projects, such as mergers and acquisitions.
  • Regularly update the company’s Conditions of Service in line with OEB requirements.

Documentation & Record Management

  • Coordinate record-keeping activities to facilitate efficient and accurate retrieval of documents for internal and external review.
  • Research, develop, and implement enhanced policies and procedures to ensure operational effectiveness and compliance.

General Duties

  • Ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and Health & Safety standards.
  • Take on other responsibilities as assigned to support the team’s success.

Who You Are Education & Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
  • CMA/CGA/CA/CPA designation is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory frameworks, including: Retail Settlement Code, Distribution Settlement Code, Standard Supply Service Code, Affiliate Relationships Code, and more.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in finance and/or regulatory roles, preferably within a utility setting.
  • Proven expertise in building financial models and working with complex spreadsheets.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong research and analytical abilities to interpret and evaluate regulatory materials.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and data-modeling tools.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey complex information clearly and persuasively.
  • Effective planning and prioritization skills to manage multiple tasks within deadlines.
