Looking for a rewarding career where you can share your expertise in a Press Gallery Coordinator capacity? As a valued member of our team, reporting directly to the Administrative and Operations Coordinator you will collaborate closely with a dynamic group of Parliamentary Protocol and Public Relations professionals.

This is a backfill position.

What You’ll Do

You’ll act with integrity to:

  • Stay abreast of major political stories so that members are notified of press conferences.
  • Exercise diplomacy, discretion, initiative and good-judgement in a fast-paced and politically sensitive environment.

You’ll support our collaboration as you:

  • Conduct internet research of newswires and government websites to obtain information about press releases relevant to Queen’s Park media and legislation in Ontario.
  • Notify members of the press gallery of all press conferences.
  • Provide administrative and clerical services including respond to inquiries, pick up and distribution of mail, press clippings, major documents and Hansard transcripts.
  • Operate the Press Gallery lounge including the purchase of snacks and drinks, and the stocking of items daily.
  • Assist officers of the Press Gallery in membership activities. Issue invoices and collect and deposit dues.
  • Research and accredit visiting journalists.
  • Coordinate and support the delivery of a variety of special projects and initiatives.
  • When required, recruit, train, and supervise the Summer Intern on the daily responsibilities of the office.

How You Qualify

You demonstrate excellence through your:

  • Completion of a one-year community college and 6 months to one-year prior related experience.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills to respond to client inquiries, and to interact and effectively provide services to Press Gallery members.
  • Range of administrative and clerical skills, proficiency in the use of the computer, e-mail and internet, understanding of legislative procedures and knowledge of services available to Press Gallery members.
  • Superior organization skills.
  • Supervisory experience is considered an asset.

Although French is not a requirement, a strong preference will be provided to candidates who have excellent oral and written communications skills in both French and English.
