Applications are invited for a certified Athletic Therapist for a 1-year term position in the Physical Education Studies Department. The Athletic Therapist provides direction to varsity student-athletes and coaches based on the assessment of student-athletes’ readiness to participate, with a focus on prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
The incumbent will supervise and manage the athletic therapy facility, including the Brandon University Sports Medicine Centre. The incumbent will evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate injuries suffered by students, and will attend all home intercollegiate athletic contests and attend to the needs of both home team and visiting teams as mandated by the Canada West University Athletic Association and Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference. Additionally, they will order and maintain supplies and equipment for the athletic therapy facility/Sports Medicine Centre. They will work in cooperation with medical practitioners and coaches in developing exercise and rehabilitation programs. Other duties may be assigned by the Dean/Director through consultation with the incumbent and the Athletic Director, where applicable. The position may include teaching from 3-9 credit hours, aiding in preparation of budget for athletic therapy area, and/or ordering and maintaining supplies and equipment for the training room.
Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent academic or professional credential is required; a Master’s degree is preferred. Applicants seeking to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the Bachelor’s or Master’s degree are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee for more information on how to how establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.
Candidates must have experience at a level appropriate for U Sports and CCAA sport.
Candidates will have a demonstrated ability to develop, use, and extend professional expertise effectively, an interest and demonstrated competence in keeping up with advances in the profession, and engagement in continuing professional development are required. They will have experience working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and will be skilled at working in a high-paced environment. They will be able to work with athletes from diverse backgrounds and have excellent communication skills. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills are considered an asset.
