Senior Financial Accountant
Mohawk Medbuy Corporation (MMC) is a national, not-for-profit, shared services organization that supports hundreds of health care providers across Canada, as well as child welfare agencies and other public sector organizations. MMC provides value-driven contracting and procurement solutions for medical/surgical supplies, pharmaceutical products, local sourcing, capital (equipment, FF&E and redevelopment) and nutrition solutions. Other services include data analytics, in-hospital support, warehousing/logistics, technology, procure-to-pay, and accounts payable.
With an emerging focus on sustainability and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, MMC is actively supporting the creation of a resilient value chain that incorporates environmental, social and governance best practices. Based in Burlington, ON, the organization also has offices in Toronto, Thunder Bay, Kingston, Brantford, London and Chatham, and a distribution centre in Oakville.
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Financial Accountant to support our Finance team.
Position Overview
The Senior Financial Accountant (SFA) is a pivotal role in Financial Services. Reporting to the Manager, Finance, the SFA ensures the accuracy and integrity of the organization’s financial records. The SFA leverages technical and analytical expertise to support the delivery of financial results. The role is responsible for financial analysis, ledger reconciliations and the application of accounting principles to analyze financial information. The SFA will be responsible for maintaining and adhering to financial controls and processes. The SFA also acts as an informal leader within the Finance team to provide guidance and oversight to their colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and reliable financial information, analysis, and support for MMC’s operations.
- Maintain the General Ledger, complete monthly journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Manage intercompany transactions and cost allocations with reconciliation.
- Assist with treasury functions: cash flow analysis, receivables, payment planning, invoices, credit memos, deposits, EFTs and applying payments and other ad-hoc analysis.
- Prepare end of year working papers and work closely with auditors to validate data via reports and back up documentation.
- Support multiple bank accounts and general ledger reconciliations, accrual calculations, and other related accounting documents/schedules analysis and variance validation.
- Provide guidance to other financial team members.
- As necessary, provide ad hoc reporting for various divisions, managers and leaders.
- Ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.
- Document and maintain supporting information for financial transactions.
- Ensure all statutory requirements of the organization are met.

- Detail-oriented in preparation, analysis and review of financial information.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to translate financial information to insights
- Ability to work independently when required as well as maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders.
- Highly adaptable to changes in urgency, timelines and/ or priorities that meet current business needs.
- Strong communication skills in both verbal and written to various levels of management as the intended audience.
- Strong informal leadership, teamwork and collaborative skills to support effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong system skills and ability to learn systems of record (Microsoft Dynamics Navision and SAP an asset)
Education, Training, and Experience
Mandatory
- Minimum professional accounting designation of CPA
- Minimum 4-6 years’ related experience
- Advanced proficiency in Excel working with large and/or complex datasets (financial modeling, pivot tables, advanced formulas).
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting process.
Preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Navision, SAP and Power BI, is an asset
Travel
- Ability to travel to Mohawk Medbuy offices if required.
