Job Summary Coordinate the development review process of Minor Variance and Consent applications by facilitating application intake, circulation, technical review, and public hearing disposition in accordance with the legislative requirements of the Planning Act.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Process applications for Minor Variance and Consent including preparation of public hearing notices and decisions
- Respond to phone, email and counter inquiries and provide advice and options to inquiring stakeholders (elected officials, staff, external agencies, resident associations, applicants, planners, architects, engineers, lawyers, the public and other interested parties)
- Prepare and attend Committee of Adjustment hearings to assist the Secretary/Treasurer
- Liaise with stakeholders such as members of Council, Committee members, staff in other departments, external agencies, applicants, the public and other interested parties to facilitate the circulation of information and coordinate the review process
- Maintain accurate record keeping
Skills And Qualifications
- University/College degree in planning, engineering technology, architectural technology or urban geography
- 3 year experience in a municipal or legal administration would develop skills for some of the job responsibilities (legislative responsibilities) but not the technical (plan reading, planning principles, zoning etc.)
- Excellent interpersonal/conflict resolution, time management, attention to detail and strong report writing skills are all very important.
- Professional designation with Ontario Association of Committees of Adjustment and Consent Authorities, Canadian Association of Certified Planning Technicians, or Canadian Institute of Planners/Ontario Professional Planners Institute is an additional asset but not required.
- May require some light lifting of supplies.
- Critical reading, listening and analysis of verbal and written material to understand complex technical or legislative information.
- Primarily office environment.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 69,080.00 - $ 92,107.00
Hours of Work: 35 hours/week
Work Location: Civic Centre
