Shared Health (1502-155 Carlton Street, Winnipeg MB, R3C 5R9), and the Department of Psychiatry (business addresses noted below), are seeking a Psychiatrist to fill our labour shortage in Manitoba.

Responsibilities As a member of the inter-disciplinary team, the psychiatrist in collaboration with the team leader, has overall clinical responsibility for monitoring client treatment and staff delivery of clinical services. The psychiatrist will be responsible for providing community services to individual who have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Psychiatric and medical assessment, treatment and management of program participants within scope of expertise or liaising with appropriate services when out of scope.
  • Participation in planning and coordination of comprehensive team services for program participants.
  • Participation in assessment of new referrals and facilitating intake of accepted participants to ACT.
  • Provide psychiatric support to the HUB on a consult basis.
  • Participation in supporting/facilitating participant discharge from ACT when appropriate.
  • Clinical supervision, education, and training of other staff.
  • Development, maintenance, and supervision of medication and psychiatric and medical treatment policies and procedures.
  • Review, follow-up, and order blood work, in conjunction with Team Lead/Nursing, for assigned participants.
  • Will arrange for clients to be admitted to hospital when it is required and liaise with hospital staff while the ACT client is in hospital.
  • Expectation to provide input and leadership, in conjunction with Team Lead, in all aspects regarding participant recovery and community living as required. Participate in the development of the recovery plan and ensure it is implemented.
  • Expectation to provide input and leadership, in conjunction with Team Lead, in all aspects of team management as required.
  • Participation in development and maintenance of working relationships with other Shared Health Manitoba and Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Mental Health services and other government agencies (e.g. Family Services and Housing).
  • Expectation to provide supervision to residents and medical students who may be on rotation, elective, or community exposure, etc.
  • Participating in a variety of evaluative measures and research studies as well as supervising psychiatric residents and other medical students.
  • Equitable participation in an on-call rota.
  • Attendance and participation in ACT staff meetings and Community Psychiatry Program meetings.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications The successful candidate must hold a Doctor of Medicine Degree with specialization in Psychiatry. The successful candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.

Experience

  • Strong clinical skills and experience providing treatment to individuals with severe and enduring mental illness.
  • Training and experience in psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery models.
  • Clinical supervisory experience.
  • Excellent communication, inter-professional and inter-personal skills.
  • Clinical experience with severe mental illness disorders, addictions, intellectual disabilities.
  • Knowledge of, experience with, or research interests in the area of severe mental illness.

Compensation Compensation is as per Doctors Manitoba agreement.
