What You Will Do
- Support the development and implementation of communications plans, including collateral or campaign materials, promotional campaigns, production requests, media and publications
- Create daily and monthly media monitoring documents (including print, online and broadcast media), which include data analysis and recommendations
- Coordinate timely and accurate responses to media inquiries and provide on-scene media relations support during news conferences and other events
- Coordinate and support media spokesperson training
- Responsible for quality assurance before release of media products, including fact-checking and collecting information from various clients areas to support the creation of media and communications products.
- Provide research, liaison and support for communications planning
- Review and draft copy for news releases, public service announcements, backgrounder documents, collateral materials, newsletters, web and digital content, key messages, speaking notes and other general writing assignments
- Coordinate revisions and approvals for communications materials
- Support the broader Corporate Communications team in delivering tactical materials such as crisis communications training resources and tracking completion/certifications
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders and suppliers
Qualifications:
- Graduation from a 2-year college, accredited post-secondary institute, or technical institute program with coursework related to journalism, communications, or public relations
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a public relations, public affairs, or public information position
Assets:
- Experience working in the public sector or a large complex organization
- Membership in IABC, CPRS or other related professional association
Skills required for success:
- Experience in a municipal government or public sector environment
- A proven ability to deliver quality communications products and counsel on time
- Experience in media monitoring, media analysis and content management tools
- Working knowledge of communications, media, social media, design coordination, and print production
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including knowledge of CP Style
- Strong attention to detail
- Flexible and adaptable to change, whether from shifting organizational priorities or changes in technology or communication practices
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff at all levels and external client groups
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and projects with short/competing deadlines
- An ability to gather technical information from clients to translate into communications products

- Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
