Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking an ETL Senior Analyst for a full-time continuing opportunity with the Information Technology Services department.

The ETL Senior Analyst coordinates the development and design of the enterprise data warehouse and BI systems and coordinates system administration, patching, and configuration support. You will serve as a subject matter expert in ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) to support the university’s data warehouse, data integrations, analytics, and business intelligence initiatives. In addition, you will support the migration to Microsoft Fabric and ensure seamless integration with Power BI for advanced data visualization and reporting.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing development, implementation, documentation, and optimization of enterprise ETL;
  • Designing, coding, and testing ETL jobs required to support the enterprise data warehouse;
  • Conducting impact assessments of data models and determining the scope of the ETL effort based on requirements;
  • Resolving production support issues, including analysis and investigation, problem solving, risk assessment, and implementation of appropriate solutions;
  • Translating data model and business mappings into technical mappings required for ETL development;
  • Analyzing data model and technical mappings to architect ETL job dependencies and sequencers;
  • Coordinating and supporting migration processes by documenting change requirements and testing evidence;
  • Configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and performing performance optimization of the ETL environment;
  • Leading activities related to installs, patching, upgrades and health monitoring as needed and liaises with IT operations regarding infrastructure needs (i.e. servers, disc, network); and
  • Maintaining vendor relationships and user accounts for issue tracking and problem resolution.

SKILLS

You will have:

  • A strong understanding of data extraction, cleansing, transformation, and loading processes;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a broad group of technical and business subject matter experts;
  • Proficiency in analytic and problem-solving skills, detail-oriented mind set and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities;
  • Strong change management and documentation skills;
  • A high level of competency with data manipulation and interrogation using SQL;
  • A high level of competency with ETL design theory and architecture best practices;
  • A high level of competency in developing and maintaining ETL processes;
  • Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Factory, including migration from legacy ETL tools;
  • Advanced knowledge of data warehouse, data mart and database technologies, standards, methodologies and best practices;
  • The ability to work with ambiguity; and
  • Strong work ethic and be self-driven.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in information technology, with at least 5 years ETL experience with BI and data warehouse technologies.
  • Experience in the design and development of data marts, data warehouses, and consolidated data repositories.
  • Expertise in working closely with business and IT stakeholders to define problems and design large-scale, enterprise class solutions.
  • Experience with Power BI for dashboard development and data reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Factory, with working knowledge of Power BI for data visualization and reporting.
  • Experience with IBM InfoSphere DataStage is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a postsecondary or other public sector institution is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of PeopleSoft is considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
