Must be physically able to complete the duties and responsibilities of the position which includes; reaching, bending and lifting up to 20 pounds

Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Prior Contact Check

Ability to travel within the City of Winnipeg
Qualifications:
Essesntial:

Completion of a recognized legal assistant training program. A combination of related education and experience may be considered
-
Extensive experience providing legal and administrative support to legal counsel (preferably in the areas of child protection or family law, such as managing files for court, including preparing documents to be filed in court, and managing calendars, phone calls, and email correspondence)
-
Experience transcribing dictation
-
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with experience prioritizing, remaining flexible, multi-tasking and meeting strict legislated deadlines
-
Experience working with and managing highly confidential and sensitive information, such as; graphic details relating to child protection concerns and legal matters
-
Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively with clients, colleagues, collaterals, including legal professionals, such as; opposing counsel, court personnel, judges, and the public with diplomacy and tact
-
Excellent verbal communication skills
-
Excellent written communication skills including experience drafting, proofreading or editing correspondence and legal documents such as; briefs, letters, memos, and court orders with a high degree of accuracy
-
Experience using computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Outlook or similar software applications
-
Experience maintaining physical and electronic legal files and database systems
-
Ability to anticipate needs, take initiative, make decisions, and work independently with minimal supervision
-
Sound judgement and problem solving skills with the ability to handle non-routine issues
-
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and contribute toward a respectful workplace
Desired:
- Knowledge of The King's Bench Rules for preparing and filing documents
- Knowledge of The Child and Family Services Act
Duties:
As a Paralegal you will report to the Paralegal Supervisor and will be responsible for independently coordinating and implementing legal support services and providing complex/specialized legal and administrative functions for the Branch Counsel and agency case managers under the mandate of The Child and Family Services Act and pursuant to The King’s Bench Rules.
