Job description

RELIEF (CASUAL) CHILD &YOUTH WORKER

Salary: $17.96 an hour with increases based on hours of service PLUS $3.00 per hour Government Wage Enhancement = $20.96

You must be available a minimum of six shifts per month including some weekend work. Flexible hours, can work up to 40 hours per week.

Requirements: Must have a Full G-Class Driver’s License

Education in Social Services or Experience in a Residential Setting is required.

Since 1980, Pioneer Youth Services operates residential treatment homes for children and youth with behavioural, social, emotional, developmental. and psychological disorders

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Counseling residents individually and/or in a group setting
  • Carrying out regular, planned programs and activities & provide on the floor supervision
  • Monitors interaction between individual residents and intervene if issues arise
  • Teaching social and life skills through interaction and modelling
  • Liaise with family and social worker of resident
  • Completing logs and incident reports as required
  • Administer medications

Qualifications and Skills

  • The successful candidate will have completed or is currently enrolled in a College/University program in child and youth worker or a related field
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • Experience in a residential treatment (group home) setting for children and young adults with emotional, physical, social, behavioural challenges and/or dual diagnosed youths would be an asset
  • The candidate must be able to utilize excellent decision making skills and be able to effectively solve problems
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong ability to build productive and supportive relationships with both staff and residents

Salary: $17.79 an hour with increases based on hours of service plus $3.00 per hour Government Wage Enhancement
