Part-Time Athletic Therapist

THIS IS A LESS THAN 12 MONTH POSITION. Incumbents to this position will work mid August to mid May.
Located in Barrie and reporting to the Manager, Varsity, the incumbent provides athletic therapy for varsity practices/games (home and away), recreational and special events. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Providing athletic therapy for the Georgian College Varsity and competitive recreational teams and visiting teams throughout the year including off-campus training, practices, home games and away games, recreational and special events, and possible travel to provincial and national championships.
- Provides acute and chronic injury assessment and follows the injury treatment progress for varsity athletes.
- Assisting with the control of inventory of first aid and athletic therapy supplies and equipment
- Preparing medical kits for team travel and complete inventory when returned
- Gathering and maintaining confidential health information of student/athletes for the college, associated Team Doctors and Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES)
- Advises staff and athletes regarding injury prevention, proper care and treatment of injuries, including arranging referrals to appropriate health care providers.
- Supports pre-season medical screening for all varsity athletes, coordinates and/or provides initial on-site injury assessment and assists in designing the treatment plan for the safe return to athletic competition.
- Implements policies and procedures for concussion protocol, injury assessment, return to play/return to learn, emergency action plans, and injury reporting.
- Provides supervision, guidance and training to student trainers.
- Ensures that all Georgian College processes meet the evolving requirements of the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) and Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) and Rowan’s law.
- Supports and mentors the student-athlete’s commitment to academic standing, athletic excellence, leadership, and responsible conduct.
- Maintains effective communication and administrative systems amongst coaches, players, and athletic staff.
- Supports and acts in accordance to the college and department strategic direction, core values and initiatives as they relate to student-athlete support, general promotions, budget management, appropriate administrative responsibilities, and community/alumni relations.
- Promoting a fair and substance free sport environment for all student, athletes, coaches, managers and administration
Qualifications:
- Successfully completed a four-year postsecondary diploma / degree in Kinesiology, Athletic Therapy or related field of study
- CATA Athletic Therapist Certification or equivalent is required
- First Responder Certificate (renewed every 3yrs), Basic Life Support Certificate (First Aid, AED, CPR)- renewed yearly
- Experience with the operation of various modalities including ultrasound, interferential current, TENS, cryotherapy machine, Normatec.
- Maintain accreditation through continuing education, reaching 21 credits every 3-years
- Knowledge of documentation on an Electronic Medical Record system – Privit.
- Required strong judgment/ decision making and conflict resolution skills when removing athlete from play.
- One-year experience in a position providing athletic therapy and First Aid / CPR / AED response (i.e. assessing injuries and determining the need for medical attention) in an athletic environment (experience with contact sports preferred)
- Computer literate with a good understanding of the MS Office Suite (Word and Excel)
- Demonstrated communication skills (written and oral) in order to obtain accurate information and record accordingly
- Self-directed with the ability to take initiative, work independently as well as within a team environment
- Organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work non-traditional hours and travel off campus
